Model and current mother of three, Ashley Graham, recently talked about her experience while giving birth to her twin boys and her previous miscarriage. The model married Justin Ervin and had her first child, Isaac, before her recent delivery.

Recounting the delivery, the 34-year-old revealed that she lost "liters of blood," and a midwife had to push down on her "vagina bone" to curb the blood loss. She apparently had to be slapped awake after the childbirth, after blacking out.

Graham also, for the first time, mentioned a miscarriage she had in February last year while her family lived with her mom. She sympathized with women who had undergone the heartbreaking experience more than once, especially if they had no children of their own.

Ashley Graham Blacked Out After Giving Birth

Graham recently shed some light on her childbirth experience, which almost cost her her life. The 34-year-old revealed that her January birth to twin boys, Roman and Malachi, led to her losing a lot of blood and being unable to "walk for a week."

In a personal essay for Glamour, Graham recounted the event, revealing that she hemorrhaged the morning she gave birth to the boys and, after giving birth to them, "blacked out." The model eventually woke up after feeling a "light touch on my cheek, which I found out later was actually somebody smacking the crap out of my cheek."

When she gained consciousness, Graham said she looked around the room and saw everyone around her saying words of encouragement to the new mother of three. "When I finally came to, I looked around, and I saw everybody. They just kept saying to me, 'You're fine. You're fine. You're fine.'"

Graham Said She Lost Liters Of Blood

Further on in the write-up, the model revealed that she had lost "liters of blood" before waking up. "They didn't want to tell me, right then, that I'd lost liters of blood. They didn't want to tell me that one of the midwives had to flip me over, press her finger down right above my vagina bone to try and stop the bleeding."

According to Graham, the doctor had problems injecting her with Pitocin because "the vein in [her] arm kept collapsing." They eventually had to put it in her hand. The 34-year-old apparently had trouble sitting or crawling after the birth and was rolled on a trundle bed, where she remained for "four straight days."

She continued, "I couldn't walk for a week. And I didn't leave my house for nearly two months. My midwives checked in on me every day. I think they thought I was going to be triggered by how severe the events had been, but I kept telling them, 'You all saved me. God saved me. This is a true miracle."

Graham Suffered A Miscarriage In February Last Year

Still sharing her ordeal with the pregnancy, the mother of three revealed that she miscarried in February 2021. The pregnancy came after Graham and her family moved back to New York from Nebraska. Her family stayed with her mom during the lockdown, and on her husband's birthday in January, she fell pregnant.

Graham said the pregnancy showed early because it was her second, and the couple was "so excited." "But at the end of February, I had a miscarriage. It was devastating; it felt like one of the biggest losses I had ever had in my life to date," she recalled.

The 34-year-old disclosed that while trying to handle the loss, her son, Isaac was a source of comfort to her, and she could only imagine how childless mothers who suffered miscarriages coped. Graham continued, "And yet the world expects us to move on and handle our grief with grace. I just remember breaking down more than a few times, just at random, and thinking, 'How do women across the world do this? Because my story is no bigger than anyone else's.

Ashley Graham On How She's Handling Motherhood

In a previous interview with People, Graham talked about how she was handling being a mother of three. According to her, on some days, she felt the full effects of the day before noon. "Having three kids under 3 is quite a full-time job. Just 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. is already a full day," she said.

The media personality also talked about how she planned on transitioning back to work, highlighting that she planned to take everything easy. The 34-year-old would be more particular about the brands and companies she collaborated with because she didn't "want to feel overwhelmed rushing back into work."
