There might be some good news on the way for fans of the show, “What I Like About You,” as the main actresses have indicated that they would be interested in a revival of the hit series. Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth, the two actresses who played the lead role in the show, have indicated an interest in reprising their roles again.
“What I Like About You” was a very popular series while it aired from 2002 to 2006, and it followed the life and adventures of two sisters, Holly, played by Bynes, and Valerie, played by Garth, as they lived together in New York after their Dad moved away to Japan.
During separate interviews, Byness and Garth spoke about their interest in working with each other once more and with the team that produced the original series. With Bynes’ recent release from her conservatorship, the revival might actually happen, at least fans hope so. Read on to find out more.
Amanda Bynes And Jennie Garth Are Interested In Reviving The Show
During an interview with TMZ, Bynes said that she is “very interested” in working on the series once again. She said, “I think it’s a great idea to reboot the show,” but explained that she is yet to reach out to Garth or Leslie Grossman, the actress who played Valerie’s close friend, Lauren.
During several interviews, Garth has also mentioned working with Grossman on a new version of “What I Like About You.” During a talk with Yahoo Entertainment, she was asked about the possibility of the reboot, and she was visibly excited when she said she “would love that.”
She said, “That show was so much fun to make. Fans of that show are super loyal. Like, it was kind of a cult following of its own. We were on for four years, and it was just a really great time.”
“Great relationships with the people who were on that show, and I would love nothing more than to revisit that, but I’m not really sure if it’s in the cards right now,” she continued, “My dear friend Leslie Grossman — she was on that show with me — we talked about it, and I would love it.”
Garth Would Love To Work With Bynes Again
During an appearance on an episode of the “Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef” podcast, Garth explained that Bynes is a critical figure if they were to make a reboot of the series. She said, “I would want to do the show with Amanda. I would just want to make sure she was in a place where she wanted to do it.”
She explained that she and Byness had become “like sisters” even when they were no longer in front of the cameras. Bynes announced that she was retiring from acting in 2010 but, during a 2017 interview, said she would consider future projects, such as “What I Like About You.”
During her TMZ interview, Bynes also said, “I miss them (Garth and Grossman) and would love to work with them again. I don’t miss acting but I loved this show, so I’d be down to return to acting for this revival. It would be a great experience to continue the show.”
Bynes Is Finally Free Of Her Conservatorship
The likelihood of the show’s revival happening increased after Bynes was recently released from her conservatorship which had placed her under her mother, Lynn’s care, for over eight years.
Lynn was in charge of all of Bynes’ professional, medical, and legal affairs since the conservatorship began in 2013. It was authorized after Bynes had to be hospitalized and placed on a psychiatric hold. It was a very public mess, and the press extensively covered her multiple breakdowns.
Bynes had extensive legal trouble, including multiple arrests, setting fire to the driveway of a Los Angeles home, and according to her parents’ statements in court, behavior that was increasingly erratic and worrying.
Amanda Bynes Struggled With Mental Health Issues
In a series of tweets posted in November 2014, Bynes revealed that she was struggling with mental health issues and complained about her parents’ restrictions through their control of her finances.
She tweeted, “I was diagnosed bipolar and manic depressive so I’m on medication and seeing my psychologist and psychiatrist weekly so I’m fine,” and later posted, “I need to get an apartment, and my parents won’t give me access to any of my funds.”
Despite the restrictions, Bynes graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and was later treated for a relapse in her mental health. She recently trended when police were called to the home she shares with her fiance, Paul Michael after they had an argument.
