"I love it because I like to flirt with her, but she takes her job so seriously, so every time I was like, wanting to play with her on camera, she was very stoic and like, 'We are not doing this here, I am at work.'"

"Claws" Star And Wife Become First Same-Sex Couple On Essence Cover

Nash and Betts's decision to choose love over all else earned them the title of Essence magazine’s first same-sex couple to grace their cover.

The Blast disclosed that the couple spoke to Essence about falling for each other after swearing off marriage for good and later having an intimate backyard wedding in California’s Ventura County.

Nash said that gender is the least of her attraction and she remains captivated by her partner’s most beautiful soul. She noted that after experiencing Betts soul, she could not imagine going through life without it.

The 52-year-old continued, “we can be around each other, work together and hang out all day. If there was a 25th hour, we would be right up in it.”

The lovebirds left for the airport to begin their honeymoon plan of “making love all around the world" two days after their wedding.

Only Nash’s family and close friends knew she was married to a woman ten years younger, so she hatched a plan to avoid backlash if the news was not well received.

The couple aimed to post the same wedding photo as their plane was about to take off, switch their phones to airplane mode, and escape into a technology-free paradise in Mexico.

Unexpectedly, Nash found out her passport had expired at the airport. Her best friend Ava DuVernay suggested that she and Betts drive to Santa Barbara instead.

On their road trip, the spouses held hands, prayed, and uploaded their infamous wedding picture. Nash did not expect the photo to set the internet ablaze.

The "Claws" actress recalled that many people believed that the posted photos were for a film or some form of a promotion featuring them. She explained:

"They started calling everybody, and we were like, 'This is insane.' I never knew where you lay your head is such a big deal to other people. I was like, 'People care?'"

Betts added that her partner was shocked by people's responses to their posts. She explained that though she anticipated some chatter, she did not expect to "break the internet."
