The 2022 Billboard Music Awards finally happened on Sunday, May 15 and it was a night that didn’t fail to make headlines.
The award ceremony was led by iconic entertainer Diddy who was announced as the executive producer and host of the big night last month.
While Diddy made sure to put on quite a show during the ceremony, fans weren’t at all pleased and took to social media to slam him.
Diddy Promised A Disruptive Lineup
As The Blast reported, Diddy was named the executive producer and host of the 2022 BBMAs in late April. The rapper shared the great news via an Instagram video update where he introduced himself as “the host with the most.”
Diddy, who has taken home the Billboard Music Awards up to ten times, promised fans it would be an unforgettable night.
“I’m the executive producer that calls all the shots, that means I’m the ringmaster, P.T. Barnum style,” he bragged. “Ain’t no party like a Diddy party. We’re gonna come through with one of the most disruptive lineups in music history with one of the most controversial hosts in musical history — Me.”
The hosting gig was set to mark 25 years after Diddy won his first Billboard Music Award and in a statement to Billboard, the Bad Boy Records Owner assured that it would be one of a kind.
This will be unlike any awards show – I’m bringing the love and setting the frequency at an all-time high. The Billboard Music Awards truly represent the artists and where music is today, so I’m excited to curate the biggest live performances and surprises.
The 2022 BBMAs Was Dedicated To Uncanceling The Cancelled

As you might know, Scott was on the brink of being canceled by the internet following the tragedy that ensued at his Astroworld Festival in November 2021.
On the other hand, Wallen was canceled and banned from several award shows after hurling the N-word in February 2022 during a drunken night out.
However, Diddy paid no mind to their atrocities and gave them a platform at the 2022 BBMAs. It was Scott’s first televised performance since Astroworld and Wallen’s in a long time.
Per The Blast, in a social media upload last week, the “Coming Home” rapper shared that he personally requested for Scott to perform.
“For the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday, I made a request, I made a demand. I said, ‘My brother Travis Scott has to perform. I’m executive producing, he has to perform,’ and NBC said ‘yes,'” Diddy bragged.

As for why he chose Scott and Wallace, the 52-year-old explained that he wanted to dedicate the 2022 BBMAs to preaching love and forgiveness.
In his words, “I am uncanceling the canceled. There will be no canceling on my watch. Love is about forgiveness… so that was why it was important for me to have Travis Scott perform. It’s going to be a great night.”
