It has been months since Kelly Rizzo lost her husband Bob Saget due to an unthinkable tragedy.
In January, the stand-up comedian reportedly passed away from blunt head trauma in his Florida hotel room. It is ultimately unclear what he hit his head on, but it was severe enough to cause a brain bleed that took his life. He was only 65 years old when he passed.
Although Rizzo said that his death “changed” their relationship, she said that “he’s still my husband.”
Kelly Rizzo Says ‘The Relationship Is Different Now’ After Bob Saget’s Death
As reported by PEOPLE, Rizzo sat down with Amanda Kloots, who knows what its like to lose a spouse. Her husband Nick Cordero passed away from COVID-19 complications in 2020 at the age of 41. The two women sat down for a panel discussion on Wednesday to talk about how their relationships have changed with their late husbands and how to deal with the grief.
“It's like, he's still my husband,” Rizzo explained. “It's not like, 'Oh, he's my former husband.' It's like ... the relationship is different now. It's just — it is what it is.”
She said that all of the loved ones who have passed on, including the late comedian Gilbert Gottfried, are “still there” in her heart and mind.
“You’ll notice I still don’t say the D-word,” Rizzo noted. “I say, ‘the day everything happened.’”
Kelly Rizzo Moved Out Of The House She Used To Share With Bob Saget
A few months after he died, Rizzo decided to move out of the home that they shared together. However, she said that she still keeps reminders of her late husband all throughout her home.
She told Kloots, “I mean, I still talk to him and I have his pictures everywhere.” She said that Saget’s three adult daughters recently stopped by for a visit to see her new home.
“His girls came to stay with me for you know, the first time since I moved into the new house just this last week, and they walked in and I was like, 'So it's kind of like a museum to your dad, so don't freak out but yes, he's everywhere,'” she divulged, adding, “And then they'll catch me like talking to a picture every once in a while, and they're like 'Stepmommy Kelly, are you okay?'”
Rizzo said that her relationship with his daughters has been important to help her get through her grief.
“I know Bob would want me to be there for his girls,” she said. “I'm not as focused on my own grief when I'm trying to help them or support them or be there for them. When I'm doing little things to try to make them happy, it kind of takes me out of my head. And I'm also at the same time being like, 'Oh, this would make Bob so happy, just knowing that I'm trying to make them happy.'”
Many Strangers Have Reached Out To Offer Their Support And Condolences
As The Blast previously reported, Rizzo thanked everyone for offering their "kindness" amidst her grief in an Instagram Story. "I really just wanted to take a second to say to everybody that it has not gone unnoticed," she said, adding, "I have been incredibly grateful and appreciative of all of you for the love and support."
The Illinois native said that numerous strangers had since become her friends after sharing their own struggles of grief and loss. "You've poured out your heart," the blogger told her followers. "It's just really kind that you've tried to help me by sharing your stories."
"Seeing how much of an impact he had on all of your lives is life-changing and just immeasurable, how much it means to all of us, especially I know how much it would mean to Bob," she added.
"He thought he was pretty well-liked," she joked. "I don't think he had any idea it was to this extent, how much of a difference he truly made."
