Bobby Moynihan Said Danny DeVito Attacked Him After 'SNL' Impersonation

45-year-old comedian Bobby Moynihan waved goodbye to the NBC comedy series "Saturday Night Live" in 2017 after a whole decade. During his time on the show, the star made impressions of several celebrities, including Danny DeVito, in two 2015 episodes. 

The act earned him a lot of attention, and many fans believed that the imitation was flattering. However, DeVito didn't take it lightly, and he made it clear to Moynihan. Though he wasn't sure which of the imitation episodes it was, Moynihan remembered experiencing something unexpected after one of them. Keep reading to find out what happened. 

The comedian was recently featured on an episode of the chat show "Late Night With Seth Meyers." During his appearance, he recalled the couple of times he made impressions of DeVito on "SNL." He also remembered being pounced on by the 77-year-old actor and producer following one of the episodes. 

He explained that he and two of his friends were attacked by DeVito "Right after [he] played him on the show." He went into details: "night, directly after the show, I had two of my buddies Mike and Rob from high school with me."

The attack happened when they got to a party that night. "I get them to the party and we pull up to the party and it's the coolest," Moynihan said. "And I walk past a car and get, like, yanked."

Moynihan admitted that he thought he would be beaten up. However, DeVito was just playing around and screaming, "You think it's funny playing me?!" He realized he was truly joking when he added the phrase: "I love ya, kid." 

The playful attack by the veteran actor made Moynihan feel lucky as he thought to himself at the moment, "'I just got attacked by Danny DeVito in front of my high school buddies. I made it." 

One of the parodies he made of DeVito was about a "Star Wars" audition as he previously tried out for the role of BB-8 in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." In the other episode, Moynihan imitated his performance in a Nespresso-related skit.

In a recent interview with The Post, DeVito revealed a side of himself to fans that they didn't know before. He spoke to them at the premiere of "The Survivor," his most recent film. When asked, he admitted that he thought of himself as having very contradicting personalities. 

He stated plainly to fans, "I'm very emotional." He then gave an example of when he was so overwhelmed by emotions that he cried a lot. "This movie that won the Academy Award? 'CODA,' [I saw it] three times — at home, thank God, because I was blubbering," he recalled. 

Fans could relate to this since many admitted that they cried a lot while watching the Musical drama on social media. It followed Ruby, the only member of her deaf family who could hear. She shuffled between helping to keep her family afloat by running the business and her newly found passion for singing in the choir. 

While he is a very emotional person, a part of him is also very playful and mischievous. The Golden Globe winner told fans that he loved to "break balls." He added that this was normal for kids that grew up where he did. I'm from New Jersey. So in Jersey, one of the major things for kids to do, boys and girls, is to break balls. Constantly."

This means that the star likes to tease or playfully mimic people for different reasons. This is likely why he had that playful attack on Moynihan. 

He also took out time to appreciate fans for recognizing and cheering him on through the years. "I'm glad— I love people," he said. "I'm happy about that. "I'm doing a lot of stuff; I love work, so I keep working, and I love that I've got fans and an audience, so it's good," he continued.
