Eva Mendes has been on an eight-year hiatus from acting.
The mother-of-two stepped back from the limelight of Hollywood in 2014 after the birth of her first daughter, Esmeralda Gosling.
Mendes hasn’t appeared in a movie since 2014’s “Lost River,” which was directed by her partner, Ryan Gosling.
In 2020, Mendes took to Instagram to explain her acting hiatus.
Eva Mendes Hasn't Acted Since 2014
As a mother now, there are many roles I won't do. There are many subject matters that I don't want to be involved with, so it limits my choices and I'm fine with that. I have to set an example for my girls now," Mendes wrote.
She became a first-time mother in 2014 and once again in 2016 when she gave birth to another daughter, Amada.
Back in 2018, Mendes spoke to E! News about her little ones.
“I'm just so obsessed with my kids that I don't want to leave them. They're just still so little,” she said at the time.
Then in 2019, Mendes spoke to Access Daily about parenting with Gosling.
Mendes Says Parenting With Ryan Gosling Is "Beautiful & Maddening"
“Oh gosh, it’s so fun and beautiful and maddening. It’s maddening,” she admitted. “It’s so hard, of course. But it’s like that feeling of like, really, you end your day, you put them to bed, and Ryan and I kind of look at each other like, ‘We did it, we did it. We came out relatively unscathed, you know?’”
Her children are now a bit older, Esmeralda (7) and Amada (6), and Mendes is now a bit more open to ending her hiatus.
The actress appeared on “The View” on Tuesday, May 10.
Mendes explained there are very strict circumstances that would get her acting again.

“I have such a short list of what I will do,” she said. “Before kids, I mean, if it was a fun project… but now I won’t do violence, I don’t want to do sexuality; the list is short,” Mendes revealed. “It has to be nice and clean.”
Whoopi Goldberg suggested Disney projects to which the actress responded, “Disney! Perfect.”
Earlier this year, Ryan Gosling, opened up about Mendes and his two daughters.
In an interview with British GQ, Gosling explained his daughters changed the way he looks at time.
“Time, in general, is something I think about a lot now,” he said. “My kids are growing up so fast I need to keep an eye on the clock in a way I never used to.”
The interview took place after the world was under lockdown for nearly two years due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
When asked if the pandemic had any effect on his view of time, he said, “You know, I’m not sure. I feel like I need more time to process it. But we have two kids [with Mendes], so we spend a lot of our time trying to keep them entertained.”
