Fans of “Thor” have good reason to be excited!
The Mjölnir hammer that is wielded by star Chris Hemsworth in the “Avengers” movies is going up for auction and the bidding is expected to go into – or maybe even surpass – six figures!

Propstore is having a major Hollywood auction, which also includes props from films such as “Star Wars,” “Back to the Future,” and “Freddy vs. Jason.”
But Marvel fans are most interested in the Mjölnir movie prop, which is officially called the Stunt Mjölnir Hammer. The hammer that is up for auction was featured in the 2011 Marvel Studios film “Thor” and is expected to sell for at least $100,000 dollars, according to TMZ.
The movie memorabilia auction could pull in more than $9 million dollars when all the bidding is said and done. The most expensive item is reported to be a screen-matched ILM 'Red Leader' X-Wing Starfighter model miniature from 1977’s “A New Hope,” which could be worth between $500,000 and one million dollars.
Over 1,800 items are going up for sale at the Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which takes place from June 22 to June 24 in the auction house's U.S. HQ in Valencia, CA. It will also be streaming online.
Believe it or not, another piece of iconic movie history recently sold for $175,000 dollars at another movie auction that took place earlier this year. According to TMZ, the iconic axe from Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror movie “The Shining” has found a new home.
Axe From ‘The Shining’ Fetches A High Price At Movie Memorabilia Auction
Horror movie fans can probably vividly remember when Jack Nicholson uses the axe to break through a wooden door before shouting “Here’s Johnny!” in the film adaptation of the popular Stephen King novel of the same name. The axe also appeared in several other scenes, such as when Jack kills Scatman Crothers’ character of Dick Halloran by striking him in the chest.
Dylan Kosinski from GottaHaveRockandRoll auction house told the outlet that a “successful businessman” who is “a big fan of the movie” won the axe in a bidding war that included a dozen possible buyers.
The total price of the axe was $175K after adding in the buyer’s $35K premium. The axe itself is made out of foam and resin, so it’s much lighter than it looks. In the past, the axe sold for $61K.
Although “The Shining” is vastly different from the book of the same name, it has an 85% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 93%.
Kent Garrison from the Mad About Movies Podcast wrote, “I have never watched The Shining and not been blown away. It's an absolute clinic in the atmosphere, tension, family drama, production design, cinematography, and so much more.” He gave the film an A+ rating.
James Berardinelli of ReelViews wrote, “As a ghost story and adaptation of the Stephen King novel, it's largely a failure. On the other hand, as an example of directorial bravura and as a study of madness and the unreliable narrator, it's a brilliant success.” He gave the film 3 out of 4 stars.
Adam Nayman of The Ringer wrote, “Kubrick's gallows humor, which was always about confronting and critiquing his audience's baser impulses: reinventing The Shining as a slapstick comedy about murderous patriarchal insecurity is a daring move.”
