He attacked a link to her GoFundMe page, where fans had already raised over $48,000 dollars, just shy of their $50,000 dollar goal.

“Austin's most bad--- hairstylist and friend Kathy Miller was recently diagnosed with B Cell ALL leukemia,” the plea began. “She will be at St. David's South Austin for at least the next month undergoing an intense course of chemotherapy and treatment. “

“A long-time Austinite, proud Latina, and staple of the local film community, Kathy is a most loyal friend, partner, sister, aunt, and colleague,” they continued. “She is the ride or die of MANY and always puts her friends and family above her own needs. “Funds raised will help ease the financial burden of loss of income and help with expenses while undergoing treatment,” they added. “Though Kathy is self-employed, she is fortunate to have some healthcare benefits through the IASTE Local 484. Her insurance will not cover all of her treatment though and any amount is appreciated.  The last few years have been extremely stressful and uncertain times...  especially for those in her industry whose ability to earn a living has been unpredictable at best.”

“Her treatment will be long and hard but she is the toughest person I know. Helping financially will allow her to concentrate on her health and continue to shine her bright light on everyone around her,” they concluded. “Sincere thanks from Team KM.”

In an update shared at the end of April, Kathy said “Thank you!” to everyone who donated to her GoFundMe page.

“I had no idea anything so terrible as a Leukemia diagnosis could spin around and be so beautiful at the same time,” she began. “It’s been a roller coaster and the highs are all the love, support, texts, emails, phone calls, letters, food, memes, pictures, paintings, drawings, alters, crystals, candle lightings, blankets, books, coloring books, robes, cookies and stuffed animals along with the immense love I have received from literally every human in my world.”

She called it “the biggest display of kindness I have ever experienced. I know you all are out there bringing me up and I can feel it all around me. It has allowed me not to think about much other than listening to my body, taking the medical care and focusing on getting back to my life.”

“I have gone through several chemo treatments, a lumbar biopsy, lumbar chemo and other science-y treatments to try to attack this visitor I have inside me,” she explained. “I am doing my best to keep my chin up every day. Some days I do not do a great job but believe me it’s the chemo that puts me in that place not so much my heart or attitude.”

“I was able to go home for two nights but then a fever put me back in the hospital. They are blasting my blood with all sorts of defenses knowing that I am going to be extremely immu-compromized,” she added. “Then when my numbers start adjusting, I will either go into remission and/or decide on what happens next, in terms of a plan to reach the goal of remission. It is expected that I have set backs and end up back in the hospital from time to time.

She said that her doctor is “is very optimistic that I will beat this and that takes any doubt away from me.”

“To wrap this up, I want to say thank you to space and back again for the generosity on the GoFundMe Campaign. I cry tears of joy when I think that people really showed up for me. I love you all for it. My heart is so wide open. I am flush,” she concluded. “I hope you all feel good about yourselves. Rest easy knowing I am going to knock this out of my body.”
