Cruise recalled how he had to fight to have Kilmer on the first "Top Gun," even when the man himself refused to join the project. He said, "In the first one, I really rallied hard for him to be in the movie, because he's such a tremendous actor, and [I wanted] to have him play that character."

The "Jack Reacher" actor said he "told [director] Tony [Scott], 'You gotta go and tackle this guy!' I said, 'Val, you gotta make this movie. You're gonna be amazing.' That's the kind of talent that he has."

He was quite secretive about the scene but said, "It's a really sensitive scene. It's a sensitive kind of narrative when you're bringing Val back and having a scene with [his character], Iceman. There's one particular scene between Val and Tom that just, man, [hits you] right in the feels."

However, the 59-year-old actor also shared something he shared with his fellow cast from the sequel: "If you're not sweating bullets doing this film, you shouldn't be on this movie." With his reputation as a hard-working actor, this statement is no surprise.

During his interview, Teller also praised Cruise for his work ethic and called him an "incredible actor and person." He said, "I mean, we really did, we bonded, you know? And with the cast as well, just this flight training and everything we had to do was so intense. So that was a really good bonding experience for us."
