Amber Heard Recalls Her First Kiss With Johnny Depp On 'The Rum Diary'

Actor Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard continue to make headlines as the trial continues.

The couple is facing each other at the Fairfax County Circuit Court. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she claims that she is a domestic violence survivor. Although she did not mention Depp by name, he claims that he has lost movie roles due to the “clear implication” that he was the “Aquaman” actress’ abuser. Heard is countersuing for $100 million dollars.

According to the New York Post, we are on day 14 of the trial. Yesterday, a psychologist testified to graphic sexual abuse that Heard told her she experienced at Depp's hands. Hughes also testified that Heard was a victim of physical and emotional violence. On Wednesday morning, Hughes also told the jury about Heard's relationship with Elon Musk.

On Wednesday afternoon, Amber Heard took the stand to testify in her own defense. When asked why she was here, she said that she was there because "my ex-husband is suing me."

She called the trial the most "painful" and "terrible" thing she had ever gone through.

Heard said she grew up in a small town outside of Austin, Texas. Her father broke horses, worked in construction, and hunted and fished for fun. Her mother worked for the state of Texas.

Heard described working with Deaf children and learning basic American Sign Language (ASL). She also worked for her father's company and took small acting jobs in and around Austin before moving to L.A. to become an actress.

Heard recalled meeting Depp on the set of "The Rum Diary." She said they liked to talk about poetry and obscure books. She said they filmed the movie in Puerto Rico in 2009. She called the experience of filming with Depp "surreal."

She said that Depp "used his tongue" when they kissed in a scene for the movie. For her birthday, he gave her a vintage bicycle.

She recalled a time when she was in a bathrobe in his trailer and he picked up the back of her bathrobe with his boot while he was sitting down. She said she giggled and he pushed her down on the bed "playfully." She said she laughed it off and went back to set. Heard clarified they were both in relationships with other people at the time.

She said she "felt chemistry" and described their relationship as a "flirtatious friendship."

The filming went on for several months. She said they had no contact until he called her one day "out of the blue." Heard said that he had also sent her a dress, a handwritten note, expensive books, and guitars.

She said she went on the press tour in late October 2011 after she had broken up with her then-partner. On the first day of the press tour, Johnny invited her up for drinks at his place with the director, but the director couldn't make it so it was just them.

She said that night "he kissed me and I kissed him back." She said, "Then we fell in love." She said that he spent the night in her hotel room in one night in London. "It was on," she said of their relationship.

When they got back from the press tour, she called it a "whirlwind romance." At the time, she said that "the world didn't know about the split between him and his former partner."

"We had to be really under the radar," she said. Heard told her that Johnny told her she would be labeled a "homewrecker" by the press and blame her for the split with his former partner. She said that they were "secretly dating" at that time.

In early 2012, Heard said she was going "job to job to job" going from "one movie to the next." Heard explained that she bought Johnny the turquoise-handled knife with "Until Death" engraved on it because Depp had a large knife collection. Heard said that Depp also "showered" her father with gifts of guns and knives. Heard said Depp also "showered" her friends with his "generosity and love."

She said their relationship was "always intense" and that it had "started that way." She describes herself as "head over heels" in love. Heard told the jury that he started to criticize her clothes and that she was afraid to talk about movie roles with him. When she was discussing one particular dress that she wore to a red carpet event, Heard got emotional when she said Depp criticized her for wearing a low-cut dress. "I felt really embarrassed and horrible that I wore that," she said. "But it didn't stop with that."

Heard said the fights started with hitting furniture and that he threw a glass at her. It didn't hit her, she clarified, but mentioned that Depp called her a "w----." She said he would "hit the wall close to my head," and "hit the wall, screaming at me."

Heard seemed to indicate that Depp was drunk during these events. She said he would leave "for a few days" and then come back to being "kind" and "warm." Heard then recalled the time that Depp allegedly hit her for the first time. That can be read here.
