Justin Bieber admits he had a breakdown following his marriage to Hailey Bieber.

The Biebers tied the knot in a New York courthouse in 2018, and later solidified their union with a massive ceremony and reception in September 2019.

Despite breakup rumors and fans bashing their relationship, the couple have remained strong in their marriage, but it wasn’t always that way.

In a new interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the singer opens up about embracing his spirituality, realizing his marriage wouldn’t fix his personal problems, and how it has all led him to a positive headspace today.

“It's a journey. I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn't," he admitted to Darden. “It just kind of was a reflection of like, man, you're a bit of a hypocrite man."

He went into further detail about being a “bit of a hypocrite.”

He Thought Marriage Would Fix His Personal Problems

Bieber explained, “You want your wife to do something that you're not doing and it's like, it's hard sometimes to look in the mirror and really have to realize, man, maybe you're not the person that you necessarily thought that you were. And that’s just a result of trauma and life circumstances.”

Despite his past trauma and run-ins with the law, the “Honest” singer said religion has played an increased role in his life.

"But for me, obviously I've been so just very public about my faith journey and how my relationship with Jesus has helped me to just not be so hard on myself," he said. "Just the idea that I'm forgiven and that he's walking me through this journey and day by day, I get to just get better and better and not be too hard on myself."

Speaking of redirecting life, Bieber’s wife had her life completely turned upside down in March.

Hailey revealed that she had a patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure procedure done to mend a hole in her heart. “It went very smoothly,” she assured her fans. “I’m recovering really well, really fast.”

After being rushed to a Palm Springs hospital with stroke-like symptoms in March, she discovered that she had a blood clot that traveled to her brain and caused a transient ischemic attack (TIA).

However, when the doctors weren’t sure how the healthy 25-year-old developed the blood clot, Hailey explained that she “went to UCLA” for “more in-depth testing … to find a PFO.”

She described the PFO as a “flap between the right and left chambers of the heart.”

“Typically, at birth, it’s supposed to close on its own,” she explained but noted that hers did not.

“They found that I had a grade five which is the highest grade you can have,” she went on. “Mine was fairly large. What typically happens is the heart will filter the blood clot to the lungs and the lungs will absorb it because they’re so big and they can handle it.”

Unfortunately, one blood clot “escaped through the hole in my heart and traveled to my brain and that is why I suffered a [mini-stroke].”

Hailey said that she was “just grateful that they found it” and explained that doctors performed a procedure where they use “a button” to close the flap in her heart to prevent it from happening again. “I’m really relieved I will be able to just move on from this really scary situation and live my life,” she added.
