Bill Gates may be single, but he’s still got his ex-wife, Melinda Gates, on his mind.
The Microsoft billionaire opened up to the UK’s Sunday Times about his failed marriage to Melinda.
Gates said he has zero regrets saying “I Do” to Melinda in January 1994.
Bill Gates Doesn't Regret Marrying Melinda French Gates
“Every marriage as the kids leave the house will go through a transition. Mine sadly went through this transition called divorce,” he told the outlet.
Last year, the Microsoft CEO published an end of year blog post in which he talked about his divorce.
“I know a lot of people are curious about a subject closer to home: my divorce,” he said. “I can’t deny that it’s been a year of great personal sadness for me. Adapting to change is never easy, no matter what it is. I’ve been impressed by how resilient my loved ones—especially my kids—have been in this challenging time.”
Despite the challenges divorce presents, Gates told the Sunday Times, “But from my point of view it was a great marriage. I wouldn’t have changed it. You know, I wouldn’t choose to marry someone else.”
He'd Re-Marry Melinda Despite Their Divorce
Gates has no plans on walking down the aisle a second time, unless he’s walking down the aisle to re-marry Melinda.
“I [would] marry Melinda all over again. In terms of my future, I don’t have any plans, but I highly recommend marriage,” he added.
His daughter, Jennifer Gates, got married last year.
Melinda and Gates got married in ’94 after dating for seven years. They have three children together, Jennifer (26), Phoebe (19) and Rory (22).
At the time of their May 2021 divorce, the former couple issued a statement which read, “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
Their divorce was finalized in August 2021.
Melinda has also been open and honest about their divorce.
Melinda Finally Breaks Her Silence About Divorce
The philanthropist broke her silence in March during an emotional interview with Gayle King for “CBS Mornings.”
Melinda recalled the heartbreaking journey that led to her bombshell divorce, which shook the world in 2021.
The 57-year-old Dallas native confessed she was an emotional wreck following the end of her 27-year-old marriage.
The former computer scientist recalled crying for several days and thinking, “How can this be? How can I get up? How am I gonna move forward?”
On other days, the mother-of-three stated that her sadness turned to anger, an emotion she believed was an essential part of the “grieving process.”
According to the billionaire, she was distressed over losing something she once had and thought would be hers to keep for a long time.
However, the former Microsoft employee was ready to embrace the next phase of her “healing journey” and have new experiences.
“I mean, this is painful stuff, and at the end of the day, though, I started on this journey of healing, and I feel like I’m starting to get to the other side. And I do feel like I’m turning a page in the chapter now,” she said.
The philanthropist continued, “I mean, it’s 2022, and I’m actually really excited about what’s to come and life ahead for me.”
As for the burning question on everyone’s mind, why did the billionaire couple decide to split? Melinda revealed that wasn’t a specific reason for the divorce.
