Another Johnny Depp Bodyguard Testifies Amber Heard Gave Him A 'Nice Little Shiner'

Actor Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard continue to make headlines as the trial continues.

The couple is facing each other at the Fairfax County Circuit Court. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she claims that she is a domestic violence survivor. Although she did not mention Depp by name, he claims that he has lost movie roles due to the “clear implication” that he was the “Aquaman” actress’ abuser. Heard is countersuing for $100 million dollars.

According to the New York Post, another member of Depp's security team took the stand to testify amidst the ongoing court drama.

Travis McGivern reportedly served on Johnny Depp’s security team for nine years. He testified that he saw Ms. Heard spit on Mr. Depp and throw a Red Bull can at him. McGivern still works for Depp on a part-time basis and provided his testimony through a live video link.

He told the jury that Heard had called Depp a “f---ing deadbeat dad” and a “f---ing cunt” during an argument. He added, “You name it, she’s spewed it.” He also claimed that Heard had verbally attacked him personally. He said that she “mocked” and “demeaned” his decision to become a bodyguard, saying Heard “threw some shade on me and my chosen career.”

He also added that Heard had once punched Depp on the left side of his face. “The initial look on his face kind of mirrored mine, kind of a look of shock,” McGivern said before adding, “My job is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of my clients and I feel like I hadn’t done that.”

He said that Depp received “a nice little shiner” from the punch and said that Depp’s face was swollen and red after Heard’s physical attack. He said that Depp never retaliated against Heard.

He also testified about Depp’s drug use, noting that the actor smoked weed “too many times to count” and that it was a “daily” habit. However, he said that Depp is “chill” and “mellow” when he smokes weed. He said that Depp has taken cocaine “a couple” of times, but that he acts calm when under the influence.

Depp’s talent manager Jack Whigham testified about how much the actor made per movie.

He made $10 million for 2017’s “Murder on the Orient Express.” He made $8 million for 2018’s “Cities of Lies.” He made $1 million for 2019’s “Waiting for the Barbarian.” He made $3 million for 2020’s “Minamata.” He would have made $22.5 million from “Pirates 6” if the movie had been made.

Whigham also testified that he couldn’t get any big movie roles after the 2018 op-ed was released. He told the jury, “After the op-ed, it was impossible to get him a studio film, which is what we normally would have been focused on.”

“I was not successful in rescuing ‘Pirates’ for Johnny,” he added, revealing that he tried to convince Disney execs to keep Depp in the franchise.

Hollywood lawyer Richard Marks testified that Johnny Depp was “canceled” by the industry after the 2018 op-ed, saying the essay “created a cancel situation, if you will.”

He added, “You wouldn’t want negativity hiring an actor who quote-unquote had been canceled.” He mentioned the morality clauses implemented in contracts in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

“What we have seen is almost immediately terminations and cancelations for the investors…to move away from that negativity,” Marks explained.

Although Disney touts itself as a “family-friendly” brand, Heard’s team compiled a list of Depp’s other not-so-friendly behavior that would cause Disney to want to cut ties with the “troubled” actor. In 2014, he was allegedly drunk while giving a speech at a 2014 awards ceremony. He insinuated that he wanted to kill then-President Donald Trump in 2017 and allegedly showed up intoxicated to a movie premiere that same year.

In 2018, a Rolling Stone profile revealed that he had vodka for breakfast, and he was once accused of attacking a crew member on a film set after drinking all day.

Douglas Bania also took the stand to comment on Depp’s public perception. She testified that Heard’s 2018 op-ed “damaged” his reputation, saying, “The public perception of Mr. Depp has been damaged. They like him less.” She added that, despite the series of not-family-friendly-behavior that Heard’s legal team pointed out, Depp “was not portrayed in a negative connotation prior to the 2016 allegation of abuse.”
