NBC Under Fire For Calling Latest 'Jeopardy!' Champ A 'Lesbian Tutor'

Current "Jeopardy!" champion Mattea Roach has made over $300,000 dollars after winning fifteen games on the trivia game show. The 23-year-old Canadian tutor is showing no signs of slowing down and has quickly become a fan favorite for her fun personality and quirky stories.

However, NBC has come under fire for a poorly worded tweet chronicling Mattea's success. Although Mattea is a tutor, and she is a lesbian (as stated on her Twitter account), NBC decided to champion her success by referring to her as a "lesbian tutor."

Although Mattea is a lesbian, she has never directly addressed her sexuality on the game show. Instead, NBC openly admits in the article that they nabbed that bit of information from her Twitter account. Although it's great that "Jeopardy!" fans have more opportunities to see incredible LGBTQ+ plays on screen, the poorly-worded tweet quickly drew fan ire on Twitter.

One user joked, "NBC has been taking heat on Twitter for describing current Jeopardy! champion Mattea Roach as 'the 23-year-old lesbian tutor from Toronto.' Yes, it's an awkwardly worded tweet, because who knew that lesbians needed tutoring in being lesbian?"

Another user commented, "She’s a tutor. The fact she is lesbian has nothing to do with being a tutor.
