Ireland Baldwin‘s relationship with her father Alec Baldwin has been one that made major headlines. The relationship between the pair made tongues wag especially when Baldwin called Ireland a “thoughtless little pig” because she refused to pick up his call. The public was awash with shock when the message leaked to the press.
However, Ireland came to her father’s defense at the time, stating that there was a misunderstanding and misrepresentation by the media.
Since then, she has developed a healthy relationship with her father even into her adult years.
On the other hand, Ireland’s relationship with her mother, Kim Basinger, has been pretty straightforward. But there was a time in her life when she stopped talking to both her parents for about a year.
Read on for more details of the disclosure.
‘I Was So Ashamed’
The 26-year-old model opened up to Willow Smith during her appearance on the “Red Table Talk” that she did not speak to her parents for a year due to her substance abuse issues.
At the time, she was “self-medicating with Xanax” and “drinking a lot.” She also admitted that “she had a night where she went too far with the pills and alcohol” and “couldn’t sleep” without it at night.
“I had isolated all of my real friends, all of my family. I had no control in anything in my life,” she added. “I tortured myself with my eating disorders.”
She mentioned that although she saw her parents regularly, she could not tell them about what was happening.
“I was so ashamed of what I had become and how I was living. I just became this different person. I was emaciated in every way; I was lifeless.”
Ireland Baldwin Had Previously Spoken About Her Eating Disorders
The model is no stranger to being vocal about her mental health, having previously spoken about her disorders in 2018.
At the time, she revealed via her Instagram story that she used to battle bulimic disorders, sharing a bikini of herself and captioning it, “Anorexia [sic] throwback.”
She also shared several tragic tales, revealing that she’d spent several hours exercising and starving herself.
“I would eat a meal or more like a bite and have to run to the nearest bathroom or find digestive pills or run until I couldn’t feel my legs right before bed.”
The model recalled reading people’s comments when she initially started her modeling career and claimed that she would run on the treadmill anytime anyone told her she was too tall or too fat to have done a job.
She, however, concluded her post beseeching everyone to enjoy themselves and all the food life had to offer them.
She mentioned on “The Red Table Talk” that although insecurities constantly popped up at any given time, she still loved her body, how it moves and how she feels in it. She now finally enjoys food the way it’s meant to be enjoyed, without guilt or shame.
She concluded, “Oh, and ‘fat’ is beautiful, not an insult. ‘Pigs’ are adorable. And so smart. SO jokes on you,”
Ireland Baldwin Once Committed Herself To a Facility
Her appearance on the “Red Table Talk” came seven years after the DJ checked herself into SOBA Recovery Center, a rehab facility in Malibu specializing in addiction and psychological disorders — for “emotional trauma.”
An inside source told ET that it was not drug-related, and she voluntarily checked herself in.
“She has just been in some tough situations lately, and it’s gotten a bit stressful and overwhelming, so she is just being proactive. She is in there to get the tools she needs to move forward in a positive direction,” the source concluded. However, there’s since been no words from Ireland about the issue.
She Slammed Down On Obsessions About Her Father’s New Family
According to Metro, the model recently slammed down on obsessions about her father’s new family. She also expressed annoyance that people thought that she might have a take or opinion.
“I get countless messages from people who are kind of alarmingly obsessed with my father and his family. I think a lot of people assume my take on any of this, well here it is for free – it is none of my business.”
Alec and his wife, on the other hand, announced on their Instagram that they’d be expecting another child this fall.
“After many ups and downs over the past few years, we have an exciting up and a huge surprise: another Baldwinito is coming this fall. We were pretty sure our family was complete, and we’re beyond happy with this surprise.”
The pair now have a house with six children–Carmen, Leonardo, Romeo, Lucia, Rafael, Eduardo– and another on the way.
