The parents had been having issues before their split. The "Step Up" actor later said his partner returned her wedding ring to him. Despite their situation, Ne-Yo spoke highly of Renay, saying:
"There’s nothing bad to say about her. She’s a fantastic woman. She’s the mother of my children. She’s always gonna be there. I will always respect that."
In March 2020, he filed for a dissolution of marriage in a Georgia Court, adding that their union was “irretrievably broken” without any chance of reconciliation.
The "Good Man" musician requested that the court grant him joint legal custody of their children. He also asked that a prenuptial agreement be put into place.
Ne-Yo stated in his filing that he and Renay signed a prenup deal that covered all financial aspects of their marital union, from child support to custody.
Days after making such a serious filing, the "Miss Independent" singer returned to the Georgia court to inform those involved that he was dismissing his case.
Renay also broke her silence on their split after news of the divorce filing began spreading. She posted a picture with a finger to her mouth, which she captioned, “Sssssshhh. You’re telling my business wrong.”
Love won as the "Time of Our Lives" musician quickly liked his wife's photo, signaling their reconciliation.
Following their dismissed filing, the couple began filming under the same roof and worked out their differences. With their second glamorous wedding, they are off to a happily ever after.
