“The Twitter Board conducted a thoughtful and comprehensive process to assess Elon’s proposal with a deliberate focus on value, certainty, and financing,” Board Chair Bret Taylor said in a statement. “The proposed transaction will deliver a substantial cash premium, and we believe it is the best path forward for Twitter’s stockholders.”

Twitter users had mixed feelings about the richest man in the world (according to Forbes) owning what has been called the most influential social media site out there. Although some users have threatened to quit the platform, the "Star Wars" actor is sticking around.

On Monday evening, the "Fall of the House of Usher" actor said that he is sticking around on Twitter, despite the Tesla founder's takeover.

He tweeted, "No matter who owns it, no matter who's on it, I'm staying to engage with you, listen to diverse opinions & to keep fighting the good fight! (also, to keep posting the inane tweets I'm known for)#TwitterTenacity."

"Fairly certain that a couple of weeks ago, Elon Musk was violating SEC regulations," another commented. "Maybe my SW knowledge is rusty but securities fraud isn't a very Jedi thing to do."

Other fans were hopeful that Musk was going to make Twitter a better place. They commented, "Though I’ve had a toe dipped in the Star Wars pool where Mark lives, there’s a lot we don’t agree on outside Star Wars. But his sentiment here is what Twitter should be about in the broad sense. I’m hopeful Elon will make Twitter a better place for this than it ever was before."

However, it seems that the Joker voice actor suddenly started losing followers not long after the takeover.

In a follow-up tweet posted less than an hour after the first one, Hamill tweeted, "Weird. I just lost more than 8,000 followers in the last couple of hours. Was it something I said?"

His post was in response to Neera Tanden, who tweeted, "Just lost 2000 followers. Anyone else losing followers?"

"Happening to a lot of people. One theories is that it is from people deleting their accounts," one fan wrote. They attached a tweet from Kevin M. Kruse, who had tweeted, "Likewise, I've lost about 1500 today. The count ebbs and flows all the time, but if this is real, I'd assume like Chuck that it's people deleting their accounts."

"Star Wars" author Chuck Wendig tweeted, "I’ve lost about 1000 and I believe it’s people deleting accounts. That’s anecdotal though."

He retweeted it from author Shannon Watts, who had tweeted, "I’ve lost over 300 followers so far today… Is Twitter finally cleaning up trolls?"

It remains to be seen if these are bot accounts that are being deleted or if people are mass-deleting in protest of Musk's takeover.
