Women’s Facebook Group Makes Abuse Comparisons In Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Trial

Actor Johnny Depp has been making headlines due to his defamation suit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The couple is facing each other at the Fairfax County Circuit Court. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post where she claims that she is a domestic violence survivor. Although she did not mention Depp by name, he claims that he has lost movie roles due to the “clear implication” that he was the “Aquaman” actress’ abuser.

A women's Facebook group called A Woman's Soul has been weighing in on the debate and showing clear support for the “Fantastic Beasts” actor amidst the trial.

On Monday, A Woman’s Soul posted support for Johnny Depp by reversing the genders of the allegations.

“A domestic survivor is finally taking her abuser to court,” the post began. “This poor woman had a cigarette put out on her face, a finger cut off, slaps and punches were part of her normal day, the man defecated in her bed while his friends laughed.”

“There are audio and pictures to back all of this up,” they added. “There were doctors that witnessed some of the abuse. The man put makeup on to imitate bruises for pictures and court appearances, but the next day there were no bruises to be seen.”

“The man tried so so so hard to ruin this woman’s life,” they continued. “The media didn’t even ask her side. They blamed her drinking as the problem (she had been sober for YEARS but the violent relationship had led her back to her addiction, her only escape) the man leaked a picture of her asleep with ice cream melted on her to prove how ‘out of control’ she was. To shame her even more. All of her past partners have stepped up to support her, all saying she was nothing but kind and loving.”

“How can we treat domestic abuse survivors this way??” they asked. “This woman isn’t a woman, she’s Johnny Depp, and the man is Amber Heard. For some reason his abuse wasn’t taken serious, it was mocked. If he were a woman would it have been so openly mocked? Abuse is Abuse. We need to protect victims regardless of gender. #JusticeForJohnnyDepp #AmberHeardIsAnAbuser.”

The post drew over 32K reactions, over 7,000 shares, and almost 3,000 comments from people who weighed in on the trial.

One user commented, “She should be held accountable what she put him through.” The comment drew over 200 thumbs-up.

“We need to stop saying if it were a man it wouldn't be taken seriously!” another user commented. “Abuse is abuse no matter what the gender is.”

“From what I’ve heard, Johnny Depp is a ‘Man,’” another shared. “He went into the bathroom and locked the door instead of hitting her back. That takes INCREDIBLE STRENGTH. And hopefully he has helped to open many to the truth and reality of Domestic Violence and it can and does happen to Men. Your Courage in coming forward and speaking your Truth is admirable. Thank you ”

“It is sad that there are men out there who are abused by women and laughed at when they say something due to the mentality that women can't be the abuser,” another wrote. “And we wonder why men clam up and show no emotion. They are taught that they cannot have or show emotion. We need to end the stigma.”

“All very true. He knew that he'd made a mistake by getting involved with her yet he was helpless,” another added. “And her she smiles. Because of her actions, other women won't be taken seriously anymore.”

“This is true,” said another. “It should be to protect victims no matter male or female, I’m glad Johnny Depp is coming out with his story.”

“It's very easy to take sides in such issues but be mindful too that we were not there and it's a he said she said kind of scenario,” another shared. “Sometimes people react to how you treat them and sometimes some people are just cruel. I hope they both look within themselves and heal from this drama. Sad and heartbreaking situation at the end of the day considering that they loved each other once upon a time.”
