The Pair Have Been Friends Since 2019
Lizzo and Styles' amazing friendship traces back to late 2019 when the "Sign of the Times" singer performed a cover of Lizzo's song, "Juice," during a visit to BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. Fans loved his rendition of the song, and Lizzo proved she loved it when she brought him onstage at a concert in Miami a month later.
During her subsequent visit to the BBC Live Lounge, Lizzo returned the favor by performing a cover of his hit single, "Adore You." The two of them have since been very supportive of each other, such as when Lizzo brought South Korean group BTS to one of Styles' concerts in November 2021.
Styles has also spoken about Lizzo severally, calling her "amazing" during an interview on the Today show. He said, "I think she's such a great artist. I think, as a fan, what you want an artist to be is themself, and I think she's someone who's just herself and she makes amazing music. It's really feel-good and I think that's what people need right now."
Harry Styles Previously Performed With Shania Twain
Styles and Lizzo's iconic performance is the second of Styles' amazing Coachella performances. For the first one, he brought country music icon Shania Twain on stage, and the pair sported glittering outfits as they performed two of Twain's hit songs, "You're Still The One" and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!"
During their performance, Styles said, "In the car with my mother as a child, this lady taught me how to sing. She also taught me that men are trash." He told the country music star that he "will be forever grateful. This is very special for me. Thank you so much."
In response, Twain said, "I'm a bit starstruck, what can I say? No, really, I'm a fan of you, of course. I realize that when I was writing this song, you were just a little kid. It's kind of a dream and very surreal to be sitting here right now to sing this song with you. I think I'm just in love and this song is all about love. So let's just sing about love."
