Of all the actors capable of performing their own stunts, Jackie Chan stands out for producing death-defying maneuvers without the use of necessary safety precautions. His distinctive unsynchronized fighting technique has attracted fans globally and garnered him numerous high-profile multilingual roles during his illustrious career.
Chan has suffered multiple heinous injuries due to his attempts to push his body far and beyond. However, he has also sometimes used such abilities to protect his co-stars from danger.
During the filming of the blockbuster film "Police Story 3," the actor saved his castmate, Michelle Yeoh, from a botched stunt, which would not only have severely scarred her but also tarnish the image of the film's production.
Michelle Yeoh Said Jackie Chan Prevented Her From Falling On Her Head
In an interview with GQ, Yeoh reminisced on some roles she played during her career. She emphasized her part in "Police Story 3," claiming that she narrowly avoided serious injury while executing a risky stunt during the film's production.
The stunt's screenplay called for Yeoh to fall from the top of a moving van onto the windscreen of Chan's car. The technicians had set up some machinery in the scenario to cause the screen to collapse and let the actress get into the vehicle.
The situation, however, took a dangerous turn when the apparatus in place failed to activate. The actress landed on the windscreen, but it did not crack, causing Yeoh to slip off the car towards the ground.
Chan attempted to grasp her but only managed to clutch a sliver of her shirt as she slipped down the car's bonnet. Fortunately, this was all that was required to keep the actress from landing on her head.
Yeoh Is Grateful To Chan For Saving Her
During the "Police Story" film period, Chinese studios did not properly rehearse stunt scenes before filming, preferring to take each shot as it came. At the time, it was widely assumed that most action movie actors had had some martial arts training and did not need intense rehearsals.
Yeoh later opined that if Chan had not disrupted the motion of her fall, she would have experienced the worst accident of her life. The actress expressed her appreciation for the gesture but joked that Chan should be kept in the dark.
Although Yeoh did not complete the stunt the first time, she exploited her disappointment to jump back on the vehicle and try again, eventually performing the feat on the second attempt.
Michelle Yeoh's Storied Career
That scene from "Police Story 3" was shot over three decades ago and included other excellent Chinese performers besides Yeoh and Chan. Yeoh portrayed "Jessica" Yang Chien-Hua, an Interpol inspector who joins forces with Chan's supercop Ka-Kui to take on an illegal narcotics ring.
Following her appearance in the film, the actress obtained high-profile parts such as Ching in the action thriller "The Heroic Trio," Siu Lin in "Tai Chi Master," and Wai Lin in "Tomorrow Never Dies," in which she starred with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
With a career spanning three decades, the actress is not yet ready to retire from the film industry and hopes to unveil a new project for her fans.
Michelle Yeoh Has Been Cast As Scian In Netflix's 'The Witcher: Blood Origin'
High off the success of her new movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once," Yeoh is already set for her next big project. One of such new projects is her upcoming feature in Netflix's "The Witcher: Blood Origin." The showrunners greenlit the fantasy series in 2020 as a prequel to their hit show "The Witcher" spinoff.
"The Witcher: Blood Origin" is backdropped 1200 years before the events of its parent series and will chronicle the birth of the first Witcher in addition to the events leading up to the "Conjunction of the Spheres." It will also look at the ancient Elven society before its extinction.
In the series, Yeoh portrays Scian, the only surviving member of a nomadic tribe of sword-elves, and is on a quest to retrieve a blade stolen from her people. The actress will star alongside Sophia Brown, Laurence O'Fuarain, Lenny Henry, Dylan Moran, and other talented actors. Netflix has slated to debut the show later in 2022.
