Per the Rolling Stone, the GenZ poster boy for sad and heartbreak songs recently announced that he was set to release his sophomore album two months from now.
"A super ache is something that hurts you so much; it lingers with you for years after," he explained to Rolling Stone of the song's title. "It is something that can only be healed through years of dramatic mourning, self-sabotage, songwriting, crying to your friends. It is a super ache."
The singer confessed that working on 'Superache' felt like "hollowing myself out of all the things I was too afraid to say" with his previous songs.
Although he added that it was a "terrifying" and "miserable" album to write, it became a perfect representation of himself.

"Superache is a vulnerable album, but not without its sarcasm. It is a story of heartbreak, friends, yearning, mourning, and grieving parts of your past you ignored for years."
He also mentioned that the album held all the feels and emotions of growing up, even though they were emotions he was sure that he'd look back and laugh about.
While he spoke to People in another interview, he mentioned that he never thought anyone would relate to his songs. Still, he has realized that the "reality of the human experience is that we're all way more similar than we think."
"A lot of us have really similar problems and really similar challenges that we face," he concluded.

The singer made his primetime appearance on the Coachella stage in Indio, California. This comes on the heels of his recent single "Memories," which would be preceding his anticipated album "Superache."
The songwriter created limited-edition merchandise to celebrate his performance– a watermelon-colored crew neck with "Your Sweater" inscribed on it, a nod to his hit single, "Heather."
Lyrics from the tender ballad explain unrequited love." You gave her your sweater, it's just polyester / But you like her better / Wish I were Heather."
"Absolutely. It's Coachella weekend, so I wanted to have an enjoyable, special experience with the fans, and with the song "Heather," he explained the merchandise's meaning, per Insider.

In the same interview, the singer added his inspiration for his new single, "Memories." The song portrayed the feeling one gets when they are trying to get over someone but keep failing because they constantly showed up in their lives.
He continued, "I actually wish that you would stay in my memories. Stop showing up in real life. Please stay there. I don't want any new memories from you. Don't make this any harder than it already is."
He admitted that the inspiration for the song came while he was at a dinner with one of his friends, who admitted to missing her ex and wanting to text him.
However, Gray prevented her from doing that because she "broke up with him" and needed to "let him rest."
"Leave him alone. Let him heal over you, let him get over you. That is a mean thing to do," he concluded.

Despite this, he admitted that he was still a romantic at heart and often finds himself falling deeply and intensely in love.
