Kaley Cuoco recently admitted that she had a rather emotional outburst after losing her much-anticipated role in Rian Johnson's "Knives Out" sequel.
The actress is known for her performance as Penny in the CBS comedy hit series, "The Big Bang Theory." Cuoco also recently got under the limelight for her lead role in "The Flight Attendant," where she got her first Emmy nomination.
Via Glamour, Cuoco revealed that her recent Emmy nomination gave her the confidence that she would land the role in the "Knives Out" sequel. However, after a "lengthy" audition, the role went to "Bride Wars" actress Kate Hudson.
Kaley Cuoco Cried After Losing Role In 'Knives Out' Sequel
"The Big Bang Theory" actress Cuoco revealed that she had a rather tough time handling not being part of the "Knives Out" sequel cast. The movie is the sequel to Rian Johnson's hit in 2019. The movie was shot in Greece with stars like Daniel Craig, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, and others.
In a Glamour interview, Cuoco mentioned that she was "convinced" the role was as good as hers because of her recent popularity in "The Flight Attendant." The actress got her first-ever Emmy nomination for her role in the movie.
She said, "I was thinking I was hot s--t. I'm going to be with Daniel Craig [who reprises his role as Detective Benoit Blanc]. This is amazing." Cuoco was so convinced that her bags were already packed for the trip to Greece. However, after the particularly lengthy audition process, the much-desired role was given to Hudson.
"I was convinced [the part was mine]," she said. "Kate Hudson ended up getting it. But I was so convinced that my bags were packed for Greece. And then I didn't get it. I was so devastated. And I'm not [normally] devastated over roles. I had done chemistry reads; I had done zooms. And I didn't get it. I cried all night long. And it went to Kate, who's great."
Cuoco Is In ‘Meet Cute’
While Cuoco didn't get the part in the "Knives Out" sequel, she got called for a role in another vastly different movie. The actress revealed that she got a phone call the next day to star in a rom-com titled "Meet Cute," where she'll act alongside Pete Davidson.
While she initially felt bad about the former loss, the new script stuck to her. Cuoco said, "They were like, 'We have an interesting script.' And I said, 'I don't want to read anything. I suck. No one wants me.' They said, 'You've got to read this.' And Pete was already attached, and I'm like, 'Okay, I'll read it."
After reading the script, Cuoco revealed that it was "magical," and she wouldn't have gotten it without losing her "Knives Out" role. "It just shows you that you're supposed to be. I mean, I was gutted over that," she said. "And that's when I thought I was on fire, like, 'I'm for sure getting that.' And they were like, 'No, we're going to go with Kate.'"
Cuoco Said She Would Audition For 'Knives Out 3'
The "Big Bang Theory" actress isn't giving up so easily. During the interview, Cuoco mentioned that she "couldn't be happier" with how everything played out enough though she didn't get her coveted role. She also said she might try her hand at the third installment of "Knives Out."
The 36-year-old said, "I couldn't be happier with how things turned out. That's what it was supposed to be, and 'Knives' is going to be great, and Kate's great. She was supposed to do it, and I was supposed to do this. And maybe I'll get to audition for the third one."
Besides her recent role in "Meet Cute," Cuoco is set to appear in the second season of the popular drama, "The Flight Attendant." She'll reprise her role as the alcoholic air stewardess, Cassie Bowden. The series is set to premiere on April 21.
'Knives Out' Will Be Released in Late 2022
Due to Netflix not releasing much about the anticipated sequel, there isn't much known about "Knives Out 2." However, via a recent Variety report, the movie will be released at the end of 2022 with a potential awards campaign in tow.
Lead actor Daniel Craig also backed up the movie release news. According to Variety, he said, "It's in the can. Rian [Johnson] is editing now, and it'll be out, I think, in the fall of this year." The filming for the sequel is done, as well as production.
While the first movie, "Knives Out," was shot mainly in Massachusetts, filming for "Knives Out 2" reportedly took place in several places. One of which was on the island of Spetses in Greece. New York was also part of the filming location and Serbia.
