Actresses, musicians, and celebrities are always in the public eye, and this sometimes leads to silly and funny rumors that are mostly never true. Actress Scarlett Johansson found herself the subject of one such rumor, which really confused her.
Johansson knows she attracts headlines every now and then, but during a recent interview, she recalled one particular rumor she heard about herself that was “simply absurd.” The rumor was that Johansson had sex in an elevator with actor, Benicio del Toro.
Read on to find out what Johansson said about the rumor.
Scarlett Johansson Said The Rumor Was Absurd
During her appearance on the Skimm’s 9 to 5ish podcast, Johansson recalled the infamous rumor from the 2004 Oscars and said it was “absurd.” She said, “There was a rumor that went around for a very long time that said that I had sex in an elevator.”
She continued, “That was a story that followed me for a long time. But I always thought that was outrageous.” Johansson made it clear that the rumor was simply not true and that the whole thing seemed unrealistic to her.
The “Lucy” actress said, “I was always thinking to myself, ‘That would be tough. It’s a very short period. The logistics of that seem so unappealing to me.’ I’m a person who’s terrified of being caught doing something I’m not supposed to be doing. So that made the story even that much more absurd to me.”
The Rumor Originated With Del Toro
The rumor originated from a viral interview Del Toro had with Esquire magazine in 2005. The rumor was that he and Johansson were intimate in the elevator at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles in 2004.
He repeated the question from the interviewer and said, “Did I ever have sex in an elevator with Scarlett Johansson after an awards show? I kind of like, you know, I, well. I don’t know.”
“Let’s leave that to somebody’s imagination. Let’s not promote it. I’m sure it has happened before. It might not be the last time, either,” he continued, “The Chateau Marmont only has eight floors. I would still be struggling out of my leather jacket by the second floor and wouldn’t even have my shirt off at the seventh.”
Johansson Has A New Plant-Based Beauty Line
One news about Johansson that is worthy of a headline is her new eco-friendly and plant-based beauty brand called The Outset. The “Sing 2” actress teamed up with Kate Foster Lengyel to create the beauty line.
The two women created a line of six fragrance-free products that will launch for sale at Sephora on April 26th. Johansson also spoke about how different the movie and beauty industries are, saying that she felt welcomed and embraced by the latter.
She said, “The most surprising thing about it has been how welcoming the industry is. I didn’t anticipate that… It’s actually quite transparent and welcoming and warm and inviting… And people have a lot of respect for one another. It’s not cutthroat at all. Not in the way that I thought it might be.”
She Said ‘The Outset’ Was Born Out Of Curiosity
During another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnasson admitted that the idea of creating her own brand seemed scary. She said, “I just didn’t feel like I had a place at the table, because it was this whole new venture. I think over time, I just felt more confident that it was something that I had a perspective on. And felt like it was worth pursuing this dream.”
She also revealed that she began to nurture the idea of her beauty line five years ago. Johansson said, “(The Outset) was born out of curiosity and a genuine love for beauty and for skincare.” She said she discussed pairing options with several beauty companies but “kept coming back to this really authentic desire” to build her own brand.
The “Under The Skin” actress met Foster, whom she calls “my producing partner, essentially,” and they immediately aligned on how the beauty brand should take shape. Johansson said, “So Kate, I think, was the person for the job because she is a risk-taker. And she and I had a similar kind of ethos around beauty.”
