On Wednesday night, Dog the Bounty Hunter was finally revealed as the celebrity star behind the Armadillo mask on Fox’s musical guessing game reality show, “The Masked Singer.”
After performing against the Ringmaster and Miss Teddy in the final round of Group B, Armadillo sang “Amazing Grace” but found himself on the chopping block. Miss Teddy was eliminated next, leaving the Ringmaster to move on to the final round.

Before he was unmasked, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Nicole Scherzinger correctly guessed his identity. Robin Thicke guessed Stone Cold Steve Austin whereas Ken Jeong went with a confusing pick of Al Pacino. Guest judge Leslie Jordan went with Gary Busey.
After he was unmasked, Dog told host Nick Cannon, “I saw the first season and I was like, man, they are having fun. Then, when I got here they said, ‘You gotta sing,’ I’m like, ‘What?’ Sing? I don’t even sing in the shower.” He then said he tried to throw the judges off his clue involving a bow and arrow, saying, “I am half Apache.”
Several other clues that revealed his identity were a dog leash, which hinted at his name and TV show, “Dog Unleashed.” The sunglasses were a hint at his signature sunglasses. The big rocks in the clue package represented his new home in Castle Rock, Colorado. The hot dogs represented his name and the fugitive bus was a nod to his bounty hunting profession.
Dog The Bounty Hunter Calls ‘The Masked Singer’ A ‘Very Challenging Show’

In an interview with Hollywood Life after his unmasking, Dog the Bounty Hunted explained that “The Masked Singer” was more difficult than he realized it would be.
He called the Fox reality series, now in its seventh season, a “very challenging show,” explaining that “You can’t see. You can’t walk.”
Some of the difficulties were caused by his costume. He explained that the mask portion of the Armadillo costume was a “foot taller” than he really was in real life, “So you’re actually talking around the neck, but you’ve got to act like you’re not. You cannot see. No one can. You’ve got to go out there blindfolded and depend on God and your hidden talent.”
Dog also opened up about the fall that he experienced in the middle of his performance earlier in the season. Even though such a fall could have been disastrous in that giant costume, Dog got right back up and continued performing.
“I don’t know why I fell,” he admitted. “I think evil pushed me down because they didn’t want me to sing that song, and they even had to help me out in the chair. That thing was over 200 pounds.”
“I couldn’t stand up by myself. So how I ever stood up like that, I know that in my world, the angels grabbed me and said, ‘Get out there.’ So I was petrified,” he explained. “Francie [Frane] and I had just watched the Olympic skier who jumped that big jump but right at the end she fell, and that went right through my mind. I thought you better get up. You’ve been pushed out of life before and you have always stood up. I don’t know what happened. Adrenaline and the Lord took over.”

Even though he didn’t have the vocal skills to compete against the Ringmaster in the finale, Dog is still impressed by how far he came on the show.
“I have a black belt in martial arts. I’ve arrested over 8,000 fugitives, so I’ve kicked a lot of Okole [Hawaiian for butt],” Dog explained. “We, the team and FOX, tried to throw in the songs, in the interview, I presented the shaka — it’s called ‘throw a shaka’ — four or five times. We tried to really load up the detectives and the judges with more info than they’ve ever received.”
He continued, “It’s one of the first times where I got to lay down the clues instead of finding them because that’s what I do, right? And I was like, ‘Oh, I could get away from anybody. This is so much fun.’ I was amazed that I went as long as I did without getting number one, booted, and number two, guessed.”
Last night, Miss Teddy was also up for elimination. Check out who was underneath the mask and their post-unmasking interview by clicking here!
“The Masked Singer” airs on Wednesday nights at 8 PM EST on Fox.
