Jada Pinkett Smith previously confessed that she did not want to marry Will Smith.
Old videos of the couple have resurfaced after the “King Richard” Oscar winner slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Annual Academy awards ceremony on March 27.
Although Smith has been slapped with a ten-year suspension from all Academy events due to the slap seen around the world, their marriage is facing new scrutiny, especially after it was revealed that Jada didn’t really want to get married to the “Independence Day” actor to begin with.
Jada Pinkett Smith Was ‘Crying Down The Freaking Aisle’ At Her Wedding
During a recently unearthed 2018 video of Facebook’s “Red Table Talk” series, Jada admitted that “I never wanted to be married” and said that she was “crying down the freaking aisle” when she tied the knot with Will Smith on New Year’s Eve in 1997.
“I was under so much pressure, you know, being a young actress, being young, and I was just, like, pregnant and I just didn’t know what to do,” Jada recalled as she described how her mother – Adrienne Banfield-Norris, convinced her to marry Smith when she was pregnant with their first son, Jaden.
“I really didn’t wanna get married,” Jada said while sitting around the table with her mom, known as “Gammy,” Smith, and their daughter, Willow.
“We only got married because Gammy was crying,” Smith told Willow.
Jada added, “It was almost as if Gammy was like, ‘You have to get married, so let’s talk about the wedding.’”
“I remember feeling very strongly and wanting you guys to be married,” Adrienne said. “I do remember [wanting you and Will to get married] but I don’t remember your rejection of the idea of marriage. I remember the rejection of the idea of a wedding but not of a marriage.”
Jada Pinkett Smith Says She Did Not Want To Marry Will Smith
Jada said that she was “forced” to go through with the wedding at the Cloisters Castle, just outside of Baltimore, Maryland.
Jada recalled, “And now Gammy done gone to Will, crying about ‘I don’t want a wedding,’ and now I’m being forced to have a wedding. I just wanted it to be the two of us on a mountain because I was like, ‘This is serious business.’”
However, the wedding turned out to be less than ideal. Even her mother called the wedding “horrible,” explaining that “[The wedding] was a mess. Jada was sick, she was very unpleasant … She didn’t cooperate with anything.”
“And I was so upset that I had to have a wedding,” Jada insisted. “I was so pissed I went crying down the freaking aisle. I cried the whole way down the aisle.”
Will Smith Revealed He DID Want To Start A Family With Jada Pinkett Smith
During the Facebook Red Table Talk, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star revealed that he’s been picturing what his family looked like since he was five years old.
“There wasn’t a day in my life that I wanted anything other than being married and having a family,” Smith said. “From literally five years old, I was picturing what my family would be.” Jada agreed that getting married to Smith, despite her misgivings about the wedding, was “the right call.”
This is only one of many resurfaced videos raising questions about Jada and Smith’s relationship after the infamous Oscar slap, leaving fans to speculate on the future of their relationship.
