'The Real' Talk Show Gets Canceled After 8 Seasons

Another fan-favorite talk show is coming to an end after a long run. Warner Bros TV's "The Real" is currently on its eighth season, but per Variety, it will not be renewing for another since Fox Stations decided to end the show.

When "The Real" started in 2013, it was co-hosted by Tamera Mowry, Tamar Braxton, Jeannie Mai, Loni Love, and Adrienne Bailon. Since its first season, Mowry and Braxton have left the show, along with Amanda Seales, who was also a co-host at a time. Garcelle Beauvais is also a current co-host of the show.

These women connected with their viewers through their interesting life experiences and lessons. While recalling memorable moments, fans wonder why they have to say goodbye. Read on to find out why.

While the studio gave no official reason, some fans believe that it's tied to the recent decision of Warner's to pick up the new daytime syndication, The Jennifer Hudson Show. The new Telepictures show will reportedly be airing on the core Fox stations, while its other co-owned outlets carried "The Real."

A source assured fans that the show's cancellation was not in any way influenced by the launch of The Jennifer Hudson Show. However, the company is yet to assign a time for airing the new show.

The news of the show's cancellation was confirmed on April 8th, and one of the co-hosts, Loni Love, took to her Instagram stories to inform fans. In her caption, she explained that the hosts and crew tried their best to keep the show going. "In the end, The Real cast and crew did everything we could to scale the showdown," Love explained. 

"We shot 7-8 shows in three days, no audience, made a conference room into a studio," she continued. She then explained that the pandemic had a hand in the show's cancellation. "In my opinion, COVID costs killed this show."

She then thanked fans for sticking with the show and supporting them, "It's been a great ride, and thank you to the studio for allowing eight seasons of the show that was Emmy winning and historic. More importantly, thank you to the viewers for riding with us…this is not goodbye, but see you all soon."

"The Real" was definitely a great show as it is in third place for longest-running Warners/Telepictures' daytime talk show, with Ellen and Jenny Jones in first and second place. Since its premiere, it has received two NAACP Awards and three Daytime Emmy Awards. 

After such a long run, the show sure had some memorable moments, especially with the changes to its hosting roster. In 2016, Braxton left the show, stating that she wanted to focus on her solo career. 

Seales then joined in 2020 and left a few months later, saying that the show restricted her and didn't allow her to express her opinions over current issues the way she wanted to. Then, Mowry-Housely left later in 2020, explaining to fans that "all good things must come to an end."

"The Real" isn't the only daytime talk show that is saying goodbye to fans soon, as another Warners/Telepictures' unscripted staple, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, will be airing its final episode on NBC on May 26th. 

Several guests who have appeared on the show throughout the years will be making final appearances to pay special tribute to the host, DeGeneres, and talk about their most memorable experiences. 

Other shows that are coming to an end include "The Nick Cannon Show," "Judge Jerry" by Jerry Springer, "The Wendy Williams Show, Dr. Oz and The Good Dish, its successor, DailyMailTV, Maury and The Doctors. Fans believe this is a very significant period for the syndication business.
