It was, ahem, 'almost paradise' for Maurissa Gunn and her ex-fiancé Riley Christian... until it wasn't.
The pair won our hearts on the latest season of "Bachelor In Paradise" with their dreamy love story.
Christian had revealed on the show (which has just been renewed for another season!) one of his biggest fantasies after finding 'the one' was to be able to cook a sprawling Sunday morning breakfast for his future family.
The pair briefly got to live out his fantasy after their memorable engagement on the beach, until the couple unfortunately split earlier this Winter.
Repairing Her Broken Heart
After a bit of fan speculation on social media and a statement from the couple, Christian spoke out about their break-up and let fans know where his mind and heart were post-split.
Christian laid his heart out on the line in an Instagram post, and said, "It takes a while for me to heal, but I thank you all for your patience. This has not at all been an easy time. This has been one of the most difficult times of my life, but as with everything I always do my best to move forward with hopeful and positive spirits," as per an Us Weekly article.
Gunn recently chose a more direct approach to let fans know how she has been healing.
"I want Bachelor Nation to know I'm still looking for love," she said, "Love is the most important thing to me. I want a husband. Seriously, it sucks!"
What Happened Between Gunn and Christian?
The couple, whose engagement marked the first engagement between a Black couple in Bachelor In Paradise's history according to People, formally announced they had split in a statement shared on social media at the time.
Gunn and Christian asked fans for patience in the wake of announcing the break-up.
The statement read, "We have decided to go our separate ways. Never did we imagine this, but we've come to a point where we both need to work on ourselves. We've appreciated everyone's love and support so far throughout our journey and we ask that you please respect our privacy during this time."
Gunn also may have hinted at what had gone wrong between her and Christian when she added, "It really sucks, coming out of an experience where you think everyone is looking out for [equal effort in a relationship]. Especially when you think you found it, like a ring on your finger and everything."
During happier times, Gunn had commented on how important her and Christian's engagement was for Bachelor Nation.
She had told People two months after their Summer engagement, "Going into this, I guess the social media and the media is kind of what let us know we are the first Black couple to come out of ["Bachelor In Paradise"]. "Because we just went into it [with an open mind. Our hearts were open and we just happened to meet each other and we look alike, which is even better!"
May Maurissa Gunn one day find her perfect husband, and we hope Riley Christian is able to find the perfect partner to spend dreamy and cozy Sunday mornings with!
