Fans of “Bridgerton” weren’t too happy when they found out that Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) and Viscount Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) didn’t get their own wedding at the end of the season.

However, the two did take a trip down the aisle in episode six, when Anthony was supposed to wed her younger sister, Edwina (Charithra Chandran).

Director Cheryl Dunye, who directed the last two episodes in the season, explained the decision to have only one wedding with Insider.

Dunye told the outlet that “There was a big wedding before,” referring to Anthony’s ill-fated wedding to Edwina. “Two weddings in a show that were that spectacular, one could not do after the other,” she added.

Dunye also explained that she wasn’t actually included in the decision-making process in the writer’s room when they discussed whether or not Kate or Anthony should be shown exchanging their vows.

She said, “I was just like, 'Yeah, you're going to make the other wedding look paltry if this wedding was bigger.'”

Although some fans aren’t happy about the show’s lack of a wedding, they also weren’t happy that the characters only became engaged in the last twenty minutes of the final episode. Although Dunye says that there was a “dynamic shift” between the pair after they got married, the episodes were nowhere near as steamy as they were in season 1.

Dunye told the outlet that she wanted their final lovemaking scene as a married couple to be different than their first encounter in the gazebo.

“Their lovemaking was different in that they were completely equal partners. That was something that we saw that was different but passionately engaged,” she explained. She said she wanted people to leave the season thinking, “Wow, they're in a happy marriage.”

She also explained that she had worked with intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot to find “positions where we feel both people being satisfied by partners.”

Although fans didn’t get to see a lot of steamy scenes in season 2, it remains to be seen what fans will get to see in season 3, especially when Jonathan Bailey hinted that Anthony might already be a father by the time next season rolls around.

When asked about what fans can expect in the show's third season, Bailey told TheWrap that he thinks that Anthony will be "devoted to Kate."

"He’s going to protect her at all costs," he said. "And I think he’s just going to cherish every single moment with her. And I think that might bring about some problems because, I don’t know, if she needs to go, you know, be in another room and he won’t be able to handle it."

"So maybe there’s a bit of that, but also, he’s going to be an incredible father," he added.

"And I just think he’s going to be able to, for the first time in his life, see qualities in himself that he so depended on and admired in his father," he continued. "And I think that’s going to really help him grow even further because, I think, he’s never really felt that he’s been enough. And I think Kate is the person who’s showing him that he is. And I think he’s going to thrive."

"And I just can’t wait for them to have a baby," he added. "Baby Edmund, I think, is the first that’s to come if it’s according to the books, but maybe they’ll have octuplets. Maybe they’ll flip it on its head."
