Sofia Carson recently released her debut self-titled album "Sofia Carson" on March 25. In an interview with People, she opened up about her inspiration for the album. According to her, it was deeply personal as she had been working on her debut album for as long as she could remember.

Sofia Carson also explained what she hoped to do with the project. "I wanted to tell a story from start to finish, a story about love — and that's what I did!"

She continued, "I wrote a story about a girl who falls into a deceiving level, needs to be broken by it, [and] a girl who picks up her pieces and survives, because it's only love, nobody dies. I've always believed that music and the art that I put out into the world is a reflection of who I am."

She added, "And with music, it's such a vulnerable and beautiful thing because you turn the secrets in your heart or your heartbreak and your emotions and your fears, and you make it into something beautiful. You make it into art, into music, that you get to share with the world, and now ... it's no longer mine, and now it's theirs to make their own."

"I hope that when they hear my music, they hear their story in mine," Carson concluded.

In the same interview with People, she explained that the album centered around a broken heart. However, she admitted to being in a good place now.

"I'm good. We're good. We survive," she said. "It's a combination of personal experiences. Some of the songs on the record are deeply personal... and a couple of them are also inspired [by] what was happening to the people closest to me in my life, my sister and my best friends."

She also mentioned that she used the emotional states of people close to her to compile the albums songs.

"With those experiences, I kind of created this movie in my head that I wanted to make into an album. And that's how it was born."

Over the years, the singer constantly spoke about how her mom was a constant figure in her growth and how important she was to her. In an interview with E! Online, she talked about her mother's reaction to her releasing an album.

"I'm so lucky because I'm on this journey with my mom, and she's by my side, holding my hand every step of the way. Because of her, I am where I am. I think she feels proud and grateful. Both of us, I think, feel tremendously lucky to have each other and to be able to cherish these moments together—because if moments like this aren't shared with those that you love, they don't mean as much."

Last month, the singer and actress released a new single titled "Loud." At the time, it was accompanied by a music video. However, in a recent interview with E! Online, the singer shared that "Loud" would be included in the new album.

"In the story of love that I wrote in the album, 'LOUD' is the moment when she chooses to fall back in love with the greatest love of all—and that is herself. When she chooses from that moment on to forever and always be loud. 'LOUD' is also, in a greater sense, dedicated to all the women of the world and to all of the loud voices of change, all the generations of voices who were previously silenced who are now louder than ever. This song just felt like a beautiful continuation of the story that I was telling, as well as a beautiful marriage of who I am as an artist and who I am as a woman and as a person."

Besides releasing her debut album, the singer partnered with UNICEF for Women's History Month–Carson's song was used as a theme song to support the "Keep Girls In School" act.

"I've always believed that the most important thing that I can do with my voice and my platform and my music is to use it to give," Carson spoke to People. "And I am so honored to be a UNICEF ambassador, and my heart and soul is dedicated to supporting the work that they do in changing and saving the lives of young women through education."

She continued, "I've always believed that a girl with a dream and an education is unstoppable and the greatest force in the world. But it's a sad reality that over 130 million girls around the world, which is such a huge number to wrap your head around, aren't in school, which means that they've been denied their right education, their voices have been silenced and they've been denied a future."

"It's our duty as women with platforms to raise our voices, to protect our girls, and so I partnered this month with UNICEF, and we made a PSA to support the Keeping Girls in School Act which will help to protect girls and reduce the barriers that they, unfortunately, face when accessing school," Carson concluded.
