Comedian Seth Meyers is joking about his own close call after the infamous Oscar slap on Sunday night.

When Will Smith rushed the stage to slap Chris Rock over a joke that Rock made about his wife, many expressed concern about the safety of stand-up comedians. As it turns out, many comedians have already had close calls… and some of them are pretty scary!

Seth Meyers Recalls Comedy Close Call, Other Comedians Chime In

On Monday, comedian Marcella Arguello tweeted, “Comedians, how many close calls have you had? I’ve had two (that I can remember lol). One lady got on stage. But it wasn’t nuts.”

“Wait, 3,” she later added. “Some brats wanted to jump me after a show lmaaaaoooo.”

Seth Meyers replied, “A guy I made fun of once ran for President. And won.”

Seth Meyers Isn't The Only Comedian With A Close Call!

Connor McSpadden shared a pretty crazy story and even provided photo proof!

“This chick broke the mic stand, grabbed the heavy base, and started swinging haymakers - aiming to connect,” he explained. “I parried the blows with the other half of the mic stand until the rest of the bachelorette party stepped in and dragged her out. All in all a pretty fun birthday.”

Mike Schmidt commented, “Bar gig, Mission, South Dakota. Dude wouldn’t shut up, I kept burying him, he said he would shoot me, and I said he was too stupid to know how to use a gun. He left and came back in with a shotgun.”

“Yowza,” Arguello replied.

“I had a guy show me his gun one time,” Ritch Duncan commented. “Works quicker than the f---in’ light, that’s for sure.”

“I got jumped on stage and knocked down by a drunk guy while hosting and performing at Hard Rock Café for a benefit,” added Susie Felber. “The cause was ‘The Prevention of Domestic Violence’ – can’t make this stuff up.”

Walter Lyng commented, “Years ago, a drunk walked on stage during a show and was being obnoxious so I ever-so-gently guided him out the exit, and he almost went headfirst down the stairs. He claimed that I had cracked one of his ribs and that he would sue me. I’m still waiting to be served.”

However, some users didn’t feel all that sorry for Chris Rock… or comedians in general, it seems.

“Almost every service worker from gas station attendant to waiter/waitress, to retail clerk has been in ‘close call’ territory multiple times in a year,” one user wrote. “Sometimes in a week. It was a slap, get over it. Comedians aren't a victimized profession, they tend to be victimizers.”
