Netflix’s “Bridgerton” has finally released all eight episodes of season 2.
This season follows the story of the eldest Bridgerton son Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey, as he attempts to find his Viscountess. Although he intends to wed Miss Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), he finds himself butting heads and slowly falling for her older sister, Kate (Simone Ashley).
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chandran opened up about some of the highlights of the season.
‘Bridgerton’ Star Said She Was ‘Just So Excited’ To Be On Set
Chandran said that she took each moment “day by day” because she was “just so excited” to be a part of the Netflix period drama. She said that she “wasn’t nervous at all” to film her scenes, including the scene where she calls off her wedding in episode six. She said that director Tom Verica “really held my hand to it.”
She also spoke about the chemistry she felt with her on-screen mother, Shelley Conn, saying their chemistry “was really natural.” She added, “We didn’t have to work at it too much. It just naturally flowed. In terms of balance, I internalized all these feelings and remembered that it comes from a place of love all the time. You can only feel these things so deeply because it comes from love.”
She also said she wished had gotten to spend more time with Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Eloise (Claudia Jesse), as the three share more scenes in the book series.
“I would have loved to spend more time with Nic and Clauds,” she said. “I would have loved to have more scenes with them. Maybe in the future, who knows? But I get it because there are so many stories that have to be filled. The writers have such a tough job.”
Nicola Coughlan Addresses Her Identity As Lady Whistledown
At the end of the season, Nicola admitted in another interview that Penelope is “definitely at her lowest point” after seemingly losing Colin, Eloise, and her Lady Whistledown identity. As she picks up the pen, she seems to have reclaimed at least one of the three. “She thought she could keep all the plates spinning and, ultimately, she couldn’t,” Coughlan said.
When asked about the ordeals faced by her family this season, Nicola admitted that Penelope was mainly focused on herself. “She’s a teenager; what’s going on in her world is the most important thing,” she explained. “What they’re up to is not the most interesting to her.”
She also added that Penelope has been hurt by Eloise, Colin, and her family in that order. “She’s used to her family hurting her, so that’s just like par for the course. Colin, that’s got to cut deep, but for Eloise to say, ‘I never want to see or speak to you ever again…’ God, what could hurt more than that?”
Simone Ashley Talks About The Affection Between The Two Sisters
Although some fans have rejected the “love triangle” presented in the second season, Ashley didn’t think that the two sisters were pitted together all that horribly. “We really achieved the strong sisterly relationship where we hopefully can encourage other women to love each other in the same way that they both do,” she said in another interview. “I’m waving the Kate and Edwina flag.”
She added that Charithra was a joy to work with, saying, “I always say Charithra, she’s just such a likable person. She’s a people person. She loves to socialize. She’s full of energy. She’s super chatty. She’s super funny. She’s always dancing and singing and just having a laugh. I really appreciated that energy from her. It was a packed filming schedule for nearly 11 months, and to have those vibes from her were deeply appreciated.”
Simone also rejected the idea that Kate was never an “obstacle” to Edwina and Anthony’s love match.
“We’re just exploring the sisterly love and the love between Kate and Anthony,” she explained. “And then this amazing relationship between Edwina and Anthony, of these two people, as Anthony says in episode 6, who are incredibly similar to one another, who have these duties as the diamond and as the Viscount.”
“I never really see Kate as an obstacle,” she added. There’s just something about her with Anthony. If anything, they’re like magnets that just slowly come together as the series goes on.”
Season 2 of “Bridgerton” is currently available to stream on Netflix.
