Iconic actor and comedian David Spade is having a very good year already. The 57-year-old "Saturday Night Live" alumni started off the year with the premiere of his podcast, titled "Fly on the Wall", which he co-hosts with Dana Carvey.
He recently voiced a character in “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania,” but his most exciting news for fans is his recent announcement that he is releasing a stand-up comedy special with Netflix.
Read on to find out more about the special and Spade’s collaboration with Netflix.
David Spade Is About To Drop His First Netflix Comedy Special
Per People, David Spade is about to premiere his first-ever comedy special with Netflix, and his fans are very excited about the news. The special is titled “Nothing Personal” and premieres on April 26th, 2022.
Spade and Netflix filmed the special at the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis, and it will be his first stand-up comedy special since his iconic 2014 Comedy Central special titled “My Fake Problems.”
“Nothing Personal” will feature Spade delving deep into his dislike for crabs and his unique method of turning down drugs. Ryan Polito directed the special, and Spade also served as an executive producer, alongside Alex Murray, Marc Gurvitz, and John Irwin.
Its Not His First Gig With Netflix
The comedy special might be Spade’s first stand-up comedy performance in eight years and with Netflix, but it isn’t the first time he is collaborating with the streaming platform.
He is currently a co-host on Netflix’s weekly comedy series, The Netflix Afterparty. In the series, he breaks down the latest and trendiest Netflix films and shows alongside co-hosts, London Hughes and Fortune Feimster. They are usually joined by the stars of the shows they dissect.
He has also featured in several Netflix films, such as “Father of The Year,” “The Do-Over,” and “The Wrong Missy.” All three films were very successful projects.
He Was A Co-host On Bachelor In Paradise
Spade also had a very busy year in 2020. He made his debut as a guest host on ABCs Bachelor in Paradise, and it was a move that surprised many of his fans. The actor and comedian had never indicated any interest in a reality TV career.
During an interview with People, he spoke about his experience as a co-host on the reality show and said that he didn’t really think through his decision to be a host on the show and just took the offer.
He said, “They knew what they were getting,” and added that he went “in there and try to just play off whatever’s happening in the moment and make some jokes without being too rough.”
David Spade's Previous Netflix Projects Were Very Successful
Spade’s previous collaborations with Netflix were very successful. “The Wrong Missy” was the number one movie on the platform for days after its premiere and was the eighth most-watched original Netflix movie.
“Father of The Year” was just as successful and was one of the highest-streamed films globally in 2018. The same was the case for 2016s “The Do-Over,” which also starred Paula Patton and Adam Sandler.
Fans are very excited to see how the comedy special will perform when it premieres on the platform on April 26th, 2022.
