Matthew Lawrence is putting up no fight in the ongoing divorce from his estranged wife, Cheryl Burke.
More than a month after burke filed for a dissolution of their marriage, Lawrence has responded to the filing with a few conditions of his own.
Matthew Lawrence And Cheryl Burke Divorce After 2 Years
The Blast was the first to break the news that Burke and Lawrence were going their separate ways after two years of marriage.
In court documents obtained, the “Dancing with the Stars” star filed for a dissolution of marriage in a Los Angeles County Court on February 18, 2022.
She cited irreconcilable differences as the legal reason for their divorce and declared January 7, 2022, as the official date of separation. In the documents, Burke revealed that both parties entered a prenuptial agreement before their marriage and asked that the court’s rights to award spousal support be terminated.
Burke and Matthew walked down the aisle on May 23, 2019, after dating for a couple of years. The former lovebirds first crossed paths in 2006 when Matthew’s brother Joey joined “DWTS.” However, it wasn’t until decades later that they reconnected and kickstarted their romantic relationship.
Matthew Lawrence Also Wants Spousal Support Terminated
According to a new report by People Magazine, Lawrence wants to move on with the divorce. On Friday, the “Brotherly Love” star submitted a response to Burke’s filing listing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of their split.
He also requested that the court’s right to award spousal support to either party be terminated. It seems that Lawrence and Burke are very cordial and are looking to put it all behind them.
Days after the news of their divorce, Burke took to Instagram to share a statement, “I know I have always said that I’m an open book with you guys, I do strive to be, and in writing this I’ve realized there isn’t really an easy way to announce that my marriage is ending.”
The professional dancer continued, “I hope you can understand that I will not be commenting any further at this time and am asking for understanding and privacy. Thank you all for all the kind words & support you’ve given be – love you all. Xx Cheryl.”
It’s unsure what caused the split, but a source revealed that their breakup wasn’t about having kids.
The ‘DWTS’ Pro Reflects On Failed Marriage & Life Post-Divorce
As The Blast reported in late February, Burke took to her Instagram to update fans on how she was faring post-divorce.
The 37-year-old revealed that she revisited the venue where she and Lawrence exchanged their vows — The Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Alongside a picture of a makeup-free look and her French Bulldog Ysabella, she wrote, “Taking a few days alone to focus inward, reflect and really try to feel my feelings – with my partner in crime of course.”
She continued, “I think it’s important to note that I am so fortunate to be able to pause and take this time for myself,” before touching on the ongoing Russia-Ukrainian war.
In another update days apart, Burke opened up about feeling alone following the divorce and its impact on her mental health.
In a forthcoming post, she wrote, “I’ve realized that whenever I am at a point in my life where I have some big emotions to process, the best thing for me to do is to spend some time alone – other than being with Ysa of course, but I truly feel like she is a part of me, so she doesn’t count.”

Burke confessed that “really feeling my feelings is new to me,” as she had spent most of her life trying to numb her emotions. However, she’s had to go through her feelings with the divorce, and it’s “A LOT HARDER!”
“There’s the obvious reason it’s hard – that the emotions I’m experiencing right now are complicated and aren’t exactly happy,” Burke continued. “But the less obvious reason is that I’m realizing I have a tendency to judge my own feelings and if I’m with other people that magnifies.”
She concluded her emotional message, sharing some words of wisdom and encouraging herself to fully experience her feelings regardless of what they are.
“I would highly encourage anyone else out there to try it and not feel guilty for needing that space,” Burke finished.
