When "Squid Game" premiered on Netflix in 2021, nobody expected that the Korean thriller series would become as famous and successful as it is today. The series ripped through audiences worldwide and was a trending topic for months.

After months of "Squid Game" memes, fashion trends, TikTok videos, and the rise of a massive global fanbase, the question on fans' minds is if there will be a season two and if some of their favorite characters from the first season will feature in it.

With how season one of "Squid Game" ended, fans are very unsure if there will be a season two and how it would proceed. This is especially important because most of the major characters died in the first season, except for Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung Jae.)

Hwang spoke to Deadline on the red carpet for the recently held Producers Guild of America Awards (PGA Awards) and shared that there is nothing to show yet concerning season two but that he is hard at work on ideas for it.

He said, "There will be more great games, that's all I can say. I'm just still brainstorming and collecting the ideas for Season 2. I haven't even started with the writing yet."

The interviewer then asked the 50-year-old director if he would include flashbacks from the events of season one and if fans could expect to see some of the original characters, despite them being killed off.

Hwang laughed and said, "No, because most of them are dead. I'll try something to bring them back to Season 2." He then gestured to HoYeon, who stood beside him and teased about how her character could return.

He said, "Let's say maybe she has a twin sister, you'll see." HoYeon herself laughed and then said, "I could change my hair color. Let's do a little like plastic surgery." She is one character that fans have clamored to see in season two, so it would be interesting.

When asked during the interview if he was surprised by how successful "Squid Game" had become, Hwang said, "Yeah, in a way because who can expect this kind of success. I tried hard to make a successful show, but I never expected this much success. It's a surprise."

The show is currently the most-watched Netflix content ever and has won several awards, including three Screen Actors Guild awards. It also made SAG Awards history as the first non-English TV series to win awards.

The show earned four nominations, including outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series for Jung Jae and outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series for HoYeon. The two actors won in their respective categories.

Since "Squid Game" became a global hit, HoYeon's life has changed drastically. She has since become a TV darling and was recently solo featured on Vogue's cover page. She made history as the first Korean to be featured on the magazines' cover.

Despite her fame as an actress, HoYeon has made it clear in several interviews that she wants to juggle her acting career with her modeling career, which she has nurtured since she was 16-years-old.

During an interview with Naver TV entertainment, the interviewer asked the 27-year-old actress if she had any plans to work with Hwang or Jung Jae, and she said, "No comment. I don't think it'll happen right now, but I don't know what will happen in the future."
