Mandy Moore recently released the beautiful video for her latest single titled "In Real Life." The video featured her castmates from her NBC show, "This Is Us," and some family moments with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, and their 1-year-old baby boy, Gus.
The cast included in the video were Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Chris Sullivan, Susan Kelechi Watson, Justin Hartley and others. There were also several celebrities such as Hillary Duff, Skylar Austin, and Amanda Kloots in the video in short clips of them spending time with their family and pets.
Read on to learn more about the video and Moore's upcoming album.
The Song Was Inspired By Her Son
In a press release Moore made about the new song, she revealed to fans that "In Real Life" was inspired by her son, Gus, who was born in February 2021. She said, "I started writing this song while I was still pregnant with my son Gus, but didn't end up finishing it until after he arrived."
"In a way, it speaks to every cliché about becoming a parent: all the lights get turned on, everything crystallizes in a way that you never could have imagined," she continued, "Before Gus was born, my life was completely about me, and not necessarily even in a selfish sense — you just put one foot in front of the other and make your way through the world, and hopefully try to be the best version of yourself."
She concluded that her life and everything changed when "this person enters the equation, and all that gets turned on its head. I wanted to write something that distills all that down, and also acknowledges that this is the most important role that I'll ever play in my life."
Mandy Moore Is Going On Tour After Her Album Release
"In Real Life" is also the title track for Moore's upcoming album, set for release on May 13th. It is also on par with the "This Is Us'" sixth and final season, which will conclude just in time for Moore to head out on tour by Summer.
37-year-old Moore revealed the album cover and a list of upcoming tour dates on her Instagram, along with some thoughts about her work process for the album. She wrote that the new single "was a direct response to digging for some creative catharsis during quarantine AND getting ready to become a mother."
Moore also added that "It's meant to touch on the clichés this next chapter brings — everything makes sense in a new and profound way. I hope you enjoy this sample of what's to come on the full record and I can't WAIT to bring all of this music and more on the road this summer! Come rock out with us!!"
Mandy Moore Isn't Emotionally Ready To End 'This Is Us'
As eager as Moore is to release her album and get on her tour, she has previously told Today that she's not "emotionally ready" to say her final goodbyes to "This Is Us." She said, "I don't think that I'm emotionally ready to accept that this is the end."
The "A Walk to Remember" actress portrays Rebecca Pearson in the show and is a fan-favorite character on the show. During her Today interview, she also said, "This is the best job I've ever had, and the fact that I won't be with this work-family anymore, it's devastating. It's heartbreaking for us, too."
From the music video and the interactions the cast members have on social media, it is evident to fans that they are more than just colleagues and castmates; they are good friends and family to each other.
The Cast Have A Close Bond
During NBC's scripted press day, held in February, Moore spoke about the close bond she and the "This Is Us" cast have formed over their years together.
She said, "I get to look in the eyes of these extraordinary people, like Justin and Chrissy and John and Sterling, and I get the honor and privilege of seeing these words, and I have this relationship with everyone."
Moore concluded with, "We're truly a family. And so, in that sense, it's like there's such an ease to it of just being able to look at each of them and tell them the truth of what these words really are."
