Joe Buck's 'The Masked Singer' Appearance Might Be His Last Time On Fox

Emmy-award-winning sports broadcaster Joe Buck was unmasked last night on the latest episode of the Fox musical guessing game show “The Masked Singer.” This makes him the second contestant to be unmasked after Duff Goldman, who performed as McTerrier, was eliminated in the show's season 7 premiere last week.

Buck, who performed as the Ram, faced off in a duel against the Firefly but ultimately lost the competition, leaving Firefly free to sing another day. The former “Jeopardy!” guest host was not available to be interviewed with Variety to explain why he appeared on “The Masked Singer” for a very interesting reason.

That really is a bad case of awkward timing!

On Wednesday, Joe Buck announced that he was leaving Fox Sports and moving to ESPN, which meant his brief time on “The Masked Singer” marked one of his final days on the Fox Network. Knowing that Joe Buck performed as the Ram also served as a clue as to his identity since the Los Angeles Rams just won the Super Bowl.

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have been tasked to take over “Monday Night Football” at ESPN, which many are calling a tremendous blow to Fox. Buck has been covering football and baseball for the Fox network for many years.

Buck even seemed to allude to his departure during his time on the show. “Tonight I’m going to be blazing my own trail,” he said. “And people better get out of the way!”

In the first episode, during the video clue package, Buck said that “my entire life, I’ve heard boos, I’ve heard cheers, but I’m used to telling stories under these lights and I’ve worked my whole life to get to where I am today.” The clues were also so covered in football clues that the judges felt that the Ram must have been an NFL star.

For their final guesses, Robin Thicke and guest judge Eric Stonestreet – host of Fox’s new “Domino Masters” – were able to guess correctly. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg guessed Jason Biggs. Ken Jeong went with Jason Sudeikis. Nicole Scherzinger thought it was Kelly Slater.

In an interview for “The Masked Singer” after his unmasking, Buck said, “I feel great.”

“I feel like I came here, I did what I wanted to do,” Buck said. “I walked out onto the stage. I wasn’t nervous. I had fun. So for, me, that’s a win.”

“I’ve been singing my whole life,” Buck added. “I’m not afraid to sing in public. Maybe I shouldn’t. But I will continue to do this even though I got voted off after two weeks.”

“My experience on the show was phenomenal,” he added. “I mean, the crew back here, Amy the vocal coach, everybody who got me dressed in this ridiculous thing every day. When you put this costume on, you immediately feel more powerful and it gives you some confidence to walk out there and sing and be in this costume was really a benefit for me. I had a blast and now that I’ve been behind the scenes I can tell you that it’s even better than I thought.”

This year, instead of groups, the contestants are divided up into 3 teams: the Good, the Bad, and the Cuddly. For his part, Buck liked being on Team Bad.

“I think if you’re going to be on a team, be the one that’s got a little grit, a lot of dirt,” he said. “Be the one that’s coming in hot, not cuddly, not team good. Be bad. Everybody at Team Bad, go get them. I’ll be cheering you on.”

“I have had the time of my life,” he concluded. “It’s a great show. It’s fun. Good family entertainment. Now I’m excited to go home.”
