The cause of death of “Full House” star Bob Saget is still up for debate.
His widow, Kelly Rizzo, and his three daughters have requested that all reports, audio, video recordings, and photographs, about Saget’s death be exempt from public record requests.
Their suit claimed that “no legitimate public interest would be served by the release or dissemination of the records to the public.” They added that the release of that information “would cause irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress.”
On Monday, March 14, a Florida judge agreed and permanently sealed the police investigation into his death from the public. However, that hasn’t stopped those from speculating about what really happened to Bob Saget.
Officials Find No ‘Definitive Conclusion’ As To What Caused Bob Saget’s Fatal Injury
PEOPLE obtained an incident report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that gives some insight into what his hotel room might have looked like after he passed away. Drug use or foul play was immediately ruled out at the time of his death on January 9.
A previous report indicated that officials found no blood or hair on the bathroom counters. They theorized at the time that it was possible that the “How I Met Your Mother” narrator hit his head on the bathroom floor but did not state if any blood was found there. An autopsy report concluded that Saget’s cause of death was a brain bleed that resulted from blunt force trauma. He had fractures and abrasions on the back of his skull and around his eyes.
Autopsy Report States Bob Saget May Have Suffered Fall Onto Carpeted Floor
An autopsy report conducted by Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany, M.D. in January indicated that “the amount of force necessary to cause the fracture, coupled with the fact that the skin on the back of the head was still intact, led him to believe that the injury was most likely caused by 'something hard, covered by something soft.'” He theorized that it was possible that Saget had suffered “a fall onto a carpeted floor.”
The report indicated that there were no signs of blood on the bedsheets or the bedspread. Other items in the room were also ruled out.
“The countertops, tables, nightstands, and other hard furniture in the room all had sharply defined edges and corners and were thought to be unlikely due to the fact that they would have lacerated the skin,” the report stated. “The counters in the bathroom and the shower stall were ruled out for the same reason. Most of the chairs and couches were thickly upholstered and were too soft to have caused the type and extent of injury Mr. Saget suffered.”
Medical Examiner Claims Bob Saget Would Have Shown Symptoms Of Distress Before Death
The report stated that “the fracture would have stunned Mr. Saget, and, even if the bleeding occurred slowly, Mr. Saget would have noticed symptoms such as dizziness, and there would have signs that were obvious to those around him, such as issues with confusion, balance, and/or slurred speech.”
“In a follow-up phone call with Dr. Stephany on January 11, 2022, I mentioned that Mr. Saget had apparently driven himself back from Jacksonville, Florida (approximately a two-hour drive). Dr. Stephany stated flatly that Mr. Saget could not have made any type of extended drive with the injury he sustained,” the report added.
Valet Did Not See Any Signs Of Distress Hours Before Death
One fan – a valet named Orlando Nunez – actually ran into the stand-up comedian at the Ritz-Carlton hotel shortly before he died. Saget posed for a selfie, which was shared by TMZ.
Nunez reportedly told the authorities that “I didn’t see any injuries, he didn’t seem hurt, he wasn’t slurring his words. He was exactly as I remembered while watching him on the TV as a child.”
Nunez said that he chatted with Saget for a few minutes before Saget went inside and Nunez parked his car. Nunez stated that there was no damage to the vehicle, which ruled out any kind of car accident.
When first responders first responded to the hotel’s distress call after finding Bob Saget unresponsive in his room, they noticed that Bob Saget had a bruise under his eye that was not visible in the photographs.
Authorities have ruled his death an accident after reviewing surveillance footage that shows that no one entered or left Bob Saget’s hotel room after he retired for the night.
