As shared by Sky Sports, the F1 driver revealed his decision to add Carmen's last name into his title, making him Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Larbalestier Hamilton.

The race car driver dropped this surprising detail while speaking at the 2022 Dubai Expo ahead of the new Formula One season, scheduled to begin at the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend.

The seven-time world champion explained that he planned on using his mother's maiden name as a new middle name so that her surname could live on with him.

According to the 37-year-old, he wanted his mother "to continue on with the Hamilton name" because he couldn't understand why women lost their surname once they got married.

However, incorporating his mother's last name into his identity didn't imply that the Stevenage native wasn't proud of his father's name. In Lewis's words:

"I'm really proud of my family's name, Hamilton. None of you might know that my mum's name is Larbalestier, and I am just about to put that in my name."

As for when "Larbalestier" would officially become his middle name, the FIA Hall of Fame inductee couldn't give a concise date but stated that the change might happen as soon as this weekend.

When the athlete was two years old, his parents separated, and the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) was raised mainly by his father and stepmother Linda.

Nonetheless, the 37-year-old remained attached to his mother, as revealed by David Croft. While discussing the impending name change, the Sky F1 commentator said:

"Lewis is so attached to his dad because of their background and the karting weekends and the bond that came through racing. But he has also got a huge bond with his mum, he loves her to bits."

Croft continued, "I think it's brilliant that he's going to take her name, and well done, Lewis. He's doing it for all the right reasons."

The media personality also praised the former couple for putting their differences aside and working as co-parents, especially celebrating their son's achievements.

The Four-Time FIA Personality Of The Year Opened Up About Racial Diversity In Sports

Last year, The Blast reported that the British racing driver got candid about racial diversity in his career with sources shortly after the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix began.

For those who don't know, the FIA star was the first black driver to enter the Formula One racing world in 2007, and he has garnered more attention for the sport.

In addition to breaking boundaries as a racer, the Pride of Britain Award winner made headlines for his activism and fight against racial discrimination.

During the Black Lives Matter movement, the 37-year-old shared a picture of himself in an all-purple ensemble featuring a black helmet with purple pigments, a purple shirt, and colorful trousers.

Many believed this post supported the BLM cause as it came not long after the racer discussed his views on racial diversity in sports.

In the interview mentioned above, Lewis won the hearts of feminists by expressing his support for female race car drivers and engineers.

According to the MBE titleholder, he wished to see a world filled with opportunities for young women, especially Black girls, rather than a place where dreams were limited to one's gender.

The F1 driver continued that racial diversity was an issue that wouldn't change overnight, but with continued efforts, the Stevenage native believed changes were possible.

The seven-time world champion also gave a special shout-out to his teammates and fans for rallying behind his goal to change racial discrimination in sports.

The British heartthrob expressed his gratitude to his team for helping him become an icon in the racing world and confessed that he couldn't be prouder of their contributions to his success.
