Almost two years have elapsed since Netflix premiered the second season of its critically acclaimed show "The Umbrella Academy." The series, which chronicled the lives of a dysfunctional set of superheroes, connected by family ties and facing an impending apocalypse, had record-breaking viewer ratings for both its debutant season and its sequel.
Considering this, Netflix's decision to greenlight a third installment of the series did not come as a surprise to viewers at home. Although the pandemic slowed down the production process, the streaming service has finally released the trailer for the upcoming sequel to whet fans' appetite as they await its return later this year.
The Umbrella Academy Impending Face-off With The Sparrow Academy
The "The Umbrella Academy" creator Steve Blackman presented the first trailer for season three and a few poster pictures at the recent SXSW film festival. Although the teaser barely lasted 20 seconds, its time range was sufficient to show that the show's superheroes would have a faceoff with a lookalike faction dubbed the Sparrow Academy.

The trailer also showed brief flashes of the live-action Hotel Oblivion design in the background and ended with the ominous phrase "the sparrows have landed."
The Sparrow Academy got introduced in season two's final episode, albeit very briefly. When the "Umbrella Academy" returned to their timeline after going on a world-saving expedition, they discover that their time traveling activities have altered everything they used to know, particularly their identities and emblem.
It remains to be seen if the Sparrows and the Umbrella Academy will iron out their differences and fight together. However, from the mood of the season two finale and the recent trailer, such a feat seems unlikely.

Netflix also dropped the trailer via the show's official Twitter page for fans' easy access. Moments after the posts, fans dropped remarks in the comment section.
One follower said," THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS GOOD NEWS," expressing happiness at the show's upcoming return.
Another fan commented," THEY'RE GONNA FIGHT! YK WHAT THIS MEANS! SPARROW ACAD SUPREMACY," referencing the faceoff between the two academies.
While the general comments revolved around the show's return to Netflix, some fans discussed the near-death scenes of some of the series' characters. Others also started counting down the date to its eventual return to the small screen.

As predicted by fans, the main cast from season two will return in the new installment. Old faces like Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min have been confirmed for the show.
With the introduction of the Shadow Academy, the cast of Season three has also increased by a notch. "Euphoria's" Javon Walton is one of the new faces, as well as Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Genesis Rodriguez, Cazzie David, and Jake Epstein.
Showrunners predict that the upcoming installment will outdo its predecessor in garnering more viewers. Given the rating for the previous seasons, such a feat is not a long shot as the streaming service would not be releasing a competing series around its debut date.

Beyond the essentials from episode one, including a potential smackdown between the Umbrellas and the Sparrows, not much has been known about the series' narrative. Netflix has kept any extra details under wraps, only releasing the titles of the ten episodes, which will debut on the same day.
Barring any unforeseen setbacks, Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy will debut on June 22. The series is gearing up to serve as is set to be one of Netflix's main summer releases, airing between the first part of Stranger Things season 4 in May and its follow up in July.
With the premiere date fast approaching, Netflix is expected to drop a full teaser of the show, which would detail more information about the sequel and clarify more details about the impending apocalypse predicted in the previous installment.
