Cardi B is broadening her career in Hollywood. In addition to her blossoming music career, the singer is also venturing into the acting sector of the industry. Her first time on television goes back to 2015 on the VH1 reality series, “Love and Hip-Hop.”
She recently starred in the newest installment of the “Fast and Furious” franchise and will apparently appear in the next chapter, F10. Cardi was set to appear in her first movie role as the lead character this year; however, things didn’t work out as expected.
The 29-year-old was slated to act in “Assisted Living” as the main character, Amber but pulled out of the movie just a month to production. This led to the film being temporarily scrapped and, according to Deadline, possible legal action.
Cardi B Dropped Out Of ‘Assisted Living’ A Week Before Production
Cardi B reportedly just dropped out of her role in a comedy feature called “Assisted Living.” According to Deadline, the “Bodak Yellow” singer pulled away from the Paramount Pictures project just a week before the production was to kick off. The rest of the cast and crew were informed that the film was temporarily on hold.
Sources informed Deadline that the reason behind Cardi’s departure was tied to her including more projects than her schedule could handle. The result was that the Bronx-born singer overextended her already busy calendar and had to cancel.
Paramount is yet to confirm the news of the star’s exit. When a key actor of a project pulls out so close to when the production is set to kick-off, legal action usually follows. However, sources revealed that the cast and crew are still hoping to figure everything out by the end of the year.
The movie’s director, Thembi Banks, was supposed to make her directional debut with this $30 million budget film; however, it will have to be postponed. “Assisted Living” was written by Kay Oyegun.
Cardi Is Amber In ‘Assisted Living’
The Paramount comedy will apparently follow in the line of films like “Tootsie,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and “Sister Act.” It was also described as a “raucous comedy” with its share of touching moments. “Assisted Living” was initially going to be Cardi’s first lead role in a movie before she opted out.
The film is about a small-time crook named Amber, played by Cardi. The character lands herself in more trouble than expected after a heist gone wrong. The ensuing result is her trying to evade the cops and her former crew.
Almost out of options, Amber decides to wear old lady clothes and a grey wig and disguise herself as an elderly woman. The character then hides out in one place the police and her gang wouldn’t even think of looking, a nursing home for the elderly.
On January 14 last year, the singer confirmed her role in “Assisted Living” by retweeting a post made by one of her followers, @hosthetics, which read, “WAP = working at Paramount.”
Cardi Will Appear In ‘Fast & Furious 9’
Cardi recently appeared in “Fast & Furious 9” as a character called Leysa. The car racing action movie was slated to be released in 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her character first appeared when Dom, played by Vin Diesel, was arrested in the U.K. He was picked up and moved to the back of an Interpol truck, and then the masked officers started taking off their helmets, revealing that they were all women.
Cardi’s character Leysa is revealed and had a short conversation with Dom where she said she’d still be “stealing gas” if it weren’t for him. Although Cardi’s character appeared for a short time, Leysa will apparently have an even more significant role in the 10th installment of the movie.

Besides her recent movie appearances, Cardi started her time on screen in 2015 with the VH1 “Love and Hip-Hop” reality show. She got famous not long into the sixth season of the reality series due to “her ability to rattle off one-liners.”
The “Press” singer was on the show for two seasons, and on December 30, 2016, she announced her intention to leave “Love and Hip-Hop” to focus on her music career fully. She previously made her music debut in 2015 after releasing a remix of “Boom Boom” by Jamaican singer Shaggy.
The 29-year-old also appeared on Netflix’s unscripted music competition show, “Rhythm + Flow.” She served as a judge along with artists like Chance the Rapper and T.I. Cardi was also an executive producer for the show.
