During an exclusive interview with Variety, O'Brien spoke about his upcoming movie "The Outfit" and why he opted out of the "Teen Wolf" film. He explained that it was "a difficult decision" and that much thought went into his final decision.

The 30-year-old actor said, "The show couldn't be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did and so many people there are extremely dear to me. It was something I was trying to make work, but it all happened very fast."

"We didn't really know that it was happening, and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show," he continued, "We were trying to figure it out." However, after carefully considering the offer, he said he "just decided it was left in a really good place for me, and I still want to leave it there."

The "Maze Runner" actor did express that he wished the actors and the film well and said, "I'm going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it fucking kicks ass, but I'm not going to be in it."

After Teen Wolf wrapped up, O'Brien gained further recognition for his roles in "The Maze Runner" franchise and the action film "American Assassin." Many fans thought he declined a role in the Teen Wolf film because of conflicting schedules for his future film projects.

O'Brien will appear in "The Outfit," a drama film about an English tailor who used to make suits on the infamous Savile row. The movie is set for release on March 18th, 2022.

He also stars alongside Zoey Deutch in "Not Okay," a comedy satire film directed by Quinn Shephard and set for release in 2022. O'Brien has also been linked to "The Vanishings at Caddo Lake," a murder-mystery film whose release date has not been announced.

The Film Will Include Original 'Teen Wolf' Cast Members

Last month, Paramount Plus announced that the "Teen Wolf" movie was written and produced by Jeff Davis, who also created the original series. Many of the original cast also retained their roles in the film, such as Tyler Posey, Colton Haynes, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, and several more.

According to an interview Davis had in 2017 with The Hollywood Reporter, the idea for the film is one he had for a long while. He said, "I thought about what kind of series finale fits this show best, and to me, it was, 'And the adventure continues …' That's what we wanted to go for."

He continued, "I want to know that Scott and his friends have many more stories to tell. This story isn't over." With the film being so close to reality, fans could not be more excited to see how the story will pick up from where it left off at the end of season six.

Teen Wolf Ended After Season Six

It is very likely that the Teen Wolf series ended because MTV canceled, mainly because of its low ratings. By 2016, the network shifted focus to newer shows that could capture its growing audience better, and Teen Wolf was losing its relevance quickly.

The show had begun to lose viewers and drop in ratings after its season three. By season five, ScreenRant reported that the show had dropped from its season four numbers of 1.61 million to 1.07 million. This was primarily attributed to Tyler Hoechlin's exit from the show.

The numbers had fully tanked to half a million viewers by season six. An injury O'Brien sustained while shooting "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" also forced the producers to use him sparingly in the season, which dropped the numbers further. MTV announced there would be no season seven by the end of the season.
