The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently announced that rapper, Eminem, had earned fresh certifications from the Gold and Platinum Program worth 73.5 million, effectively making history in the association.
Upon the announcement, fans could barely control their excitement as they believed that the massive boost in downloads and streams after Eminem’s performance at the Super Bowl Halftime contributed to the achievement. The star performed with Mary J. Bilge, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Kendrick Lamar.
The Detroit rapper has now made history by holding the position for the most awarded singles by a musician in the program’s history. He is also one of just seven musicians having over three Diamond Albums Awards in any music era or genre. Keep scrolling to find out more.
Eminem Has Made History
The 49-year-old has cemented his position in history as one of the most successful artists, and this is evident with all six of his Diamond awards from the RIAA. Fans could not be prouder of his achievement. With the most recent award unit addition of 73.5 million, the star’s career has a total of 227.5 million single and award certifications from the RIAA.
Fans believe that the artist has lived up to his “Rap god” title, as the RIAA CEO and Chairman, Mitch Glazier, confirmed this by commenting on his success. He noted that the awards were a sign of Eminem’s dedication to his craft and how far this had taken him throughout the past couple of decades.
He said, “With today’s announcement, Eminem becomes the top certified singles artist in our program’s history and adds a rare third Diamond Album to his many creative accomplishments. Congratulations to Eminem and his entire label team, who have set the bar higher than ever!”

The Vice-Chairman, Steve Berman, gave a statement and congratulated him on behalf of the team. “Interscope joins Aftermath in congratulating Marshall, Paul, and the entire Shady team on this remarkable achievement,” he said.
He also noted that he was honored to have worked with Eminem on “one of the greatest journeys in the history of recorded music.” He ended by saying that “the most beautiful part of this is it feels like the journey has just begun.”

Eminem is signed to Aftermath Entertainment, Shady Records, and Interscope Records. He has also collaborated with Universal Music Publishing Group and others during his career. Before joining Dr. Dre, producer and rapper at Aftermath Entertainment, Eminem was signed to a Detroit-based label called WEB Entertainment.
However, Aftermath now works under and is also distributed through Interscope Records, which is owned and operated by Universal Music Group. Eminem founded Shady Records with Paul Rosenberg, his manager, following the success of The Slim Shady LP in 1999. The two of them serve as presidents of the label.
The RIAA Gold & Platinum Awards Program Promotes Artists

The Gold & Platinum Awards Program was created in 1958 by the RIAA and, since that, has served as a standard for calculating how commercially successful a song or sound recording is. Fans regard the industry as one of the best mediums for recognizing the achievements of artists in the music industry.
The trademarking of the Gold Record (500,000) contributed to formalizing the ritual of presenting artists with awards for the commercial success of their music. This was followed by the Platinum Award (1,000,000), then the Multi-Platinum Award (over 2,000,000) then finally the Diamond Award (over 10,000,000).
The industry also created the Premios de Oro y Platino Awards to encourage Latin music. This focused on audio productions, which included over 50% of the Spanish language. Since 2004, the RIAA has been counting digital sales and almost a decade after started counting on-demand streams.
