Poutine Dish Has No Relation To Vladimir Putin

There seems to be some confusion between the French dish poutine and Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, many countries and businesses have put a ban on selling Russian-made products.
For example, many liquor stores in the US have discontinued selling Russian-made Vodka.
Russian Products Suspended & Banned Across The Globe
The NHL announced it would be suspending relationships with Russian business partners, FIFA banned all Russian national teams from international competitions “until further notice, and Hollywood has taken a stance on Russia’s invasion opf Ukraine.
Hollywood studios Disney, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures Entertainment said they would pause theatrical releases of upcoming films in Russia.
Netflix also announced it would not carry 20 Russia propaganda channels it could be required to host under Russian law.
However, the sales of poutine continue, and many people believe the french fry dish has a direct tie to Putin.
In the event you are not familiar with poutine or what it is, let The Blast inform you.
Poutine Is Not The Same As Putin
Poutine is a dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy.
It was created in Quebec in the 1950s, and became a popular restaurant item in the 1990s.
A restaurant in France is now speaking out against backlash over the cheesy, fried dish.
La Maison de la Poutine, or The House of Poutine, released a statement on Twitter on Friday, March 4.
The statement was released after the restaurant received an influx of calls, insults and even threats.
French Restaurant Receives Backlash For Selling Poutine
In a translation via Insider, the statement reads, “It, therefore, seems necessary for us to recall that La Maison de la Poutine is unrelated to the Russian regime and its leader. Our dish was born in Quebec in the 1950s. And the stories to tell its origin are numerous. But one thing is certain: poutine was created by passionate cooks who care about bringing joy and comfort to their customers.”

La Maison de la Poutine offered its support to the people of Ukraine calling them courageous.
One restaurant that sells poutine did however take steps to remove the word “poutine” from their menu given how closely it sounds like “Putin.”
Quebec-based restaurant Le Roy Jucep announced it would remove the word from its branding as a way to protest Russia’s invasion, according to “Canadian Daily the Ottawa Citizen.”
In a since-removed Facebook post, Le Roy Jucep, who claims to have invented poutine, said that the dish would temporarily be called "fries cheese gravy," per ‘the Citizen.’
President Zelensky Vows To Kill "Every Bas***d" Killing Civilians
Putin and the Russian military continue to bombard Ukraine with tanks, airstrikes, explosions and more.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has promised to hunt down and “kill every bas***d” who has killed innocent Ukrainian citizens trying to flee the country.
In a Monday report from Daily Mail, hundreds were pictured trying to flee Irpin, to the west of Kyiv, after days of Russian attacks on the city.
Zelensky’s vow came after photos surfaced of a family-of-four were seen lying deceased on the side of a road.
The family was trying to flee the town of Irpin before they were killed in an attack by Putin’s forces.
In a televised address he said, “A man, a woman and two children. Right on the road. … when they were just trying to get out of town. To escape. The whole family. How many such families have died in Ukraine! We will not forgive. We will not forget.”
Zelensky continued, “We will punish everyone who committed atrocities in this war. On our land. We will find every bas***d. Which shot at our cities, our people. Which bombed our land. Which launched rockets. Which gave the order and pressed 'start.’ There will be no quiet place on this Earth for you. Except for the grave.”
