“The Batman” very recently hit cinemas, and the positive reviews have been pouring in. Film critics and fans who have watched the movie have praised it thoroughly, especially Robert Pattinson, who plays Batman himself, and Zoë Kravitz, who plays Catwoman.
The stars have been on a press tour promoting the movie and talking about their moments on set. During one of such interviews, Kravitz revealed that her schedule included time for her to bond with cats, as they were the cats that her character owned and would be around several times.
Read on to find out what star actress said.
Kravitz Said The Cats Were Hard To Control
On a recent appearance on the "Tonight Show, starring Jimmy Fallon", Kravitz spoke about how difficult it was to bond with and control the cats. She said, “They were the hardest thing to control during the shooting. We were doing crazy stunts and all that was fine, but then getting a cat to stay in one place? Impossible.”
She also explained that she had to “get to know the cats that were Selina’s cats” because it was part of her role as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. She said, “It’s funny, they would say, ‘Training at 1:30, and then rehearsal at this time, and then cat time.’”
“I was like, ‘What’s cat time?’ And it was just putting me in a room with a bunch of cats, with the cats that were going to be my cats. But the cats didn’t care,” Kravitz continued, “I was just sitting here and the cats would just walk away. It did nothing.”
She Watched A Lot Of Cat Videos
During her interview with Fallon, the “Mad Max: Fury Road” actress also revealed that aside from hanging out with cats a lot, she also watched many cat videos to analyze their movements and fighting style.
This was necessary as her character, Catwoman, is meant to be a feline in her movements, especially when fighting. Catwoman isn’t the only character from the Batman comics to feature in the new Batman film.
There is Edward Nashton, aka The Riddler, the film’s primary villain who Paul Dano plays. More include Lieutenant James Gordon (played by Jeffrey Wright) and Oz/The Penguin (played by Colin Farrell).
Kravitz Said She Improvised Some Lines
During screening and Q&A for “The Batman” at Warner Bros in California back in February, Kravitz spoke to Insider’s Kirsten Acuna about her character and some of her filming experiences.
The “Divergent” actress revealed that she came up with the idea for her character to tell Batman, “I have a thing about strays,” in response to his statement about Catwoman having a lot of felines around her.
Kravitz Also Revealed That She Played Catwoman As Bisexual
Kravitz, during a recent interview with Australia’s Pedestrian, revealed that she portrayed Catwoman to be bisexual. In “The Batman,” there’s a scene where Catwoman refers to a female friend as “baby,” and the tone implies that there is more than just a friendship between the two women.
When asked if the scene was a hint to Kyle’s sexuality, Kravitz said, “That’s definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship.” Director Matt Reeves said, “I don’t think we meant to go directly in that way, but you can interpret it that way for sure.”
He added, “She has an intimacy with that character, and it’s a tremendous and deep caring for that character, more so than a sexual thing, but there was meant to be quite an intimate relationship between them.”
