Evan Rachel Wood To Play Madonna In Weird Al Biopic

On Wednesday, the Internet was buzzing when it was announced that Wood would be playing Madonna in the upcoming Roku biopic alongside "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe. Rainn Wilson of "The Office" has joined the cast as Dr. Demento. Julianne Nicholson of "Mare of Eastman" and Toby Huss of "Dickinson" will serve as Weird Al's parents, Mary and Nick Yankovic.

As The Blast previously reported, the biopic will give fans a glimpse into Weird Al's life, starting with his childhood and rise to fame. Weird Al became an international sensation with his early parody songs like "Eat It" and "Like a Surgeon." The biopic will also touch on his series of celebrity relationships and his "depraved lifestyle."

Funny Or Die's Eric Appel both directed and wrote the biopic. “When Weird Al first sat me down against my will and told me his life story, I didn’t believe any of it,” Appel told Deadline. “But I knew that we had to make a movie about it.”

Weird Al Yankovic has become famous for his song parodies, such as "Amish Paradise" and "Trapped in the Drive-Thru." As such, Weird Al has made a name for himself as one of the best-selling comedic recording artists of all time. Weird Al has won five Grammy Awards, and his 2014 album "Mandatory Fun" was the first comedy album in history to hit the number one spot on Billboard's Top 200 chart.

Production of the Roku biopic started in February 2022 in Los Angeles, and fans can barely recognize "The Lost City" star walking around set as Weird Al.

No release date has been announced for the film but Yankovic said that he is "absolutely thrilled" to see Radcliffe playing him on the big screen!

"When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork," Weird Al joked.

"I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule. And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film," he continued. "I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for."

Daniel Radcliffe Says 'Wearing The Hawaiian Shirt Is A Huge Responsibility That I Don't Take Lightly'

Last week, Weird Al posted a photo of Radcliffe on set, showing him playing his famous accordion.

"SHOOT DAY #8: It never fails - we’re trying to shoot a movie here, and this cosplayer weirdo tries to crash our set. Ugh!" Weird Al joked. "I mean, I love my fans, but… boundaries, people! Don’t worry, we had security throw him out. #WEIRDTheAlYankovicStory."

In his interview with People, Radcliffe admitted that it's a big responsibility to portray the life and career of Weird Al in the upcoming biopic. “Wearing the Hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly, and I’m honored to finally share with the world the absolutely 100 percent unassailably true story of Weird Al’s depraved and scandalous life,” he said.
