Cheryl Burke is allowing herself to really feel her feelings amid her divorce from Matthew Lawrence.
Last week, The Blast reported on the “Dancing with the Stars” professional’s decision to file for divorce after two years of marriage.
Lawrence proposed to Burke on May 3, 2018, on her 34th birthday. The famous former couple tied the knot on May 23, 2019, ending their relationship in under 3 years.
Cheryl Filed For Divorce After Two Years Of Marriage
According to reports, the couple started dating back in 2017 but met in 2006 after Lawrence’s brother — Joey — was cast on ‘DWTS.’ The couple dated for a few years following their meeting, but got back together in 2017 and eventually got married.
Following the divorce news, Burke broke her silence on her failed marriage.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, February 24, Burke wrote, “I know I have always said that I’m an open book with you guys, I do strive to be, and in writing this I’ve realized there isn’t really an easy way to announce that my marriage is ending.”

She continued, “I hope you can understand that I will not be commenting any further at this time and am asking for understanding and privacy. Thank you all for all the kind words & support you’ve given be – love you all. Xx Cheryl.”
Her message didn’t reveal a definitive reason for why the marriage ended, but it is confirmation that her marriage has ended.
On Monday, February 28, the dancing pro took to IG again to alert fans that she is taking some time to herself to reflect on her divorce. Coincidentally, she decided to visit the location where she and Lawrence tied the knot.
She posted a bare faced photo of herself along with a pic of her and her French Bulldog, Ysabella.
Burke captioned the photos, " Taking a few days alone to focus inward, reflect and really try to feel my feelings - with my partner in crime of course ♥️.”
She's staying at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar in San Diego.

She continued her note to shed light on the situation in Ukraine writing, “I think it’s important to note, that I am so fortunate to be able to pause and take this time for myself. As much as I may be going through personally, it is nothing compared to the suffering in Ukraine right now. If you haven’t already, please visit the link in my description to see how you can help.”
Carrie Ann Inaba commented three red heart emojis, and Emma Slater wrote, “Hello beautiful.”
Christi Lukasiak replied, “Love you, lady ❤️.”
The former couple does not have any minor children, so custody won’t be an issue in this case.
It's Over For Cheryl & Matthew
In the divorce filing, Burke claims the couple separated on January 7, 2022, after 2 years and 7 months of marriage. Interestingly, the professional dancer is asking for the court to terminate its right to award spousal support to either party. The documents reveal the couple entered into a prenuptial agreement on May 20, 2019 — but, it’s unclear if any money will change hands following the split.
Obviously, both individuals are wealthy and were famous before they got together.
“When we first dated, we were both young and immature, and I was so new to this world,” Burke told People in 2017. Adding, “Now we are both adults and feel balanced.”
Back in 2017, Cheryl discussed not having children with her famous husband, saying, “We really want to do it right. We want to do the steps of being engaged, moving in together, getting married and having kids,” adding, “I’m not getting any younger. We want kids and all of that, so we’ll see what happens.”
Interestingly, Cheryl opened up about the couple’s relationship in January — sitting down with Kelly Clarkson on her talk show.
