Cheryl Burke has spoken out just one day after her divorce filing was reported.
The Blast exclusively broke the heartbreaking story about Burke and Matthew Lawrence’s divorce.
Burke was the one to file for divorce after two years of marriage.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the “Dancing with the Stars” star filed for dissolution of marriage in Los Angeles County Courts on February 18, 2022.
It's Over For Cheryl Burke & Matthew Lawrence
The famous former couple tied the knot on May 23, 2019, ending their relationship in under 3 years. According to reports, the couple started dating back in 2017 but met in 2006 after Lawrence’s brother — Joey — was cast on ‘DWTS.’ The couple dated for a few years following their meeting, but got back together in 2017 and eventually got married.
Lawrence proposed to Burke on May 3, 2018, on her 34th birthday.
At this point, it’s unclear what happened in the couple’s relationship, but Cheryl cited “irreconcilable differences” as the legal reason for their divorce.
Burke has now released a statement which may help her devoted fans wrap their heads around the divorce.

Her message doesn’t reveal any definitive reason for why the marriage ended, but it is confirmation that her marriage has ended.
"There Really Isn't An Easy Way To Say My Marriage Is Ending"
Many of her fans commented on the post words of encourage, sorrow and healing.
“I’m so sorry! Sending you lots of love and light right now! Always here for you no matter what,” one fan lovingly wrote.

The couple does not have any minor children, so custody won’t be an issue in this case.
In the divorce filing, Burke claims the couple separated on January 7, 2022, after 2 years and 7 months of marriage. Interestingly, the professional dancer is asking for the court to terminate its right to award spousal support to either party. The documents reveal the couple entered into a prenuptial agreement on May 20, 2019 — but, it’s unclear if any money will change hands following the split.
Obviously, both individuals are wealthy and were famous before they got together.
“When we first dated, we were both young and immature, and I was so new to this world,” Burke told People in 2017. Adding, “Now we are both adults and feel balanced.”
Back in 2017, Cheryl discussed not having children with her famous husband, saying, “We really want to do it right. We want to do the steps of being engaged, moving in together, getting married and having kids,” adding, “I’m not getting any younger. We want kids and all of that, so we’ll see what happens.”
Interestingly, Cheryl opened up about the couple’s relationship in January — sitting down with Kelly Clarkson on her talk show. According to Cheryl, she was a little upset over her famous husband keeping “45 to 50″ pet reptiles in their home.
No snakes, that was the deal. I said no snakes,” she told Clarkson. Adding, “So when we actually dated over a decade ago, I knew that I was marrying a guy who loves reptiles.”
Interestingly, the last social media photo Cheryl shared including her now ex-husband, was during the Thanksgiving holiday this year.
“After working daily these last few months, beyond grateful to spend much-needed quality time with my family. So thankful for their continued love and support on my journey. If you were unable to see family, friends, or loved ones this holiday weekend for whatever circumstance, do know my heart and love is with you,” she wrote.
