In his recent interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," airing today, Stonestreet shared that his fiancée initially thought the whole thing was a joke. It was because the actor used his comedic acts when he asked Schweitzer, 41, to marry him, and had her twin sons get involved in the process.
Stonestreet revealed on the show that he told his longtime love that a production company was interested in having them do a social media post together.
"So that she would do her hair and make and look as beautiful as she wanted to look for this moment," the actor explained.
The actor shared a clip where it showed the boys taking turns telling their mom that Stonestreet had something to ask before he popped the big question. His proposal took Schweitzer by surprise, and she can be heard saying in the footage, "Is this all a joke?"
Eventually, she said, "Yes," to Stonestreet before they embraced each other at the end of the video.

On August 23, Stonestreet took to Instagram to announce his engagement with the Pediatric nurse practitioner while also showing off the gorgeous diamond ring.
"She said, 'She’d have her people call my people,'" he captioned the share.
On His Decision To Marry Schweitzer
Stonestreet first met Schweitzer at Big Slick charity weekend in Kansas City in 2016. A year later, they started dating.
In October, he opened up to People about what finally made him get down on one knee after being together for five years.
"We've been together for a long time," he said, "I just knew I wasn't going to find a better partner in life than Lindsay. So it just made the most sense. And I'd taken my sweet old time."
He added, "Everybody else — let me put it this way — that knows Lindsay was like, 'What are you waiting for?' So, it was time."

Stonestreet also said the proposal was done "impromptu," but it was still a "special moment" for them.
"Impromptu just made it a special moment for her and I," he stressed, adding that it was "not a big production."

At the time, some social media users thought Schweitzer was too young for Stonestreet as she looked youthful.
"Apparently a lot of people think I look too old, as a 49 year old man, to be engaged to my almost 42 year old fiancé," he wrote in a post, adding along with a photo where he edited his fiancée's face to make her look older.
"Look, she can’t help that she looks so great at 42 and I can’t help that I apparently look like her grandad so, I fixed it for everyone," the actor joked.
