9th Annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards - Full Winner's List!

On Saturday night, the winners of the 9th Annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards were presented.

The awards were given out during a live ceremony at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Amazon’s “Coming 2 America” picked up three awards for best contemporary make-up, contemporary hair styling, and special make-up effects. “Saturday Night Live” also scored three wins.

Some of the nominees in the major film categories included “Cruella,” “Dune,” “House of Gucci,” and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” Although it was nominated in three categories, “House of Gucci” failed to score a win last night.

“Star Wars” showrunner Jon Favreau accepted the Guild’s Distinguished Artisan Award virtually, thanking the Guild for being “an important part of my work, both in front and behind the camera.” “The Shape of Water” actor DougJones also accepted the new Chair Award, saying, “I feel a little guilty receiving an award for sitting in a chair while you did all the work.”

Make-up artist Michèle Burke, the first woman to win an Academy Award in her field, was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in the “Austin Powers” series and the “Mission Impossible” franchise. A second Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Joy Zapata, who had worked on HBO’s “Westworld” and 2018’s “A Star Is Born.”
